OUR PHILOSOPHY
[Gang Risk Intervention Project]
- These kids are not a "problem" or the "enemy" they are our children.
- The elements of their sub-culture, it's language, dress and music are not
"bad" simply because we don't care for them.
- We are in charge now so we are obligated to help these kids - one day we will be old
and they will be in charge - we must help these kids.
- Man is a social creature so it is natural and normal to form peer groups.
Therefore, gangs are not bad, only the negative activity is antisocial.
We are all part of one gang or another; Lion's Club, First
Baptist etc.
- We need to empower our Law Enforcement and Justice system to deal effectively with the
criminal elements and teach the rest to productive.
- Kids want something that will make them successful in life - nobody wants to fail.
- If the only desirable support group they have is the gangs, all they will learn
is the negative gang activities.
- If we catch them before their records are stained by the Juvenile Court System we have
a better chance of changing their paradigm into a successful one.
- The most effective method of effecting positive change in their lives is through
Adult Mentoring in a "Breakfast Club" environment.
