In New Mexico, the culture flows from
time-honored traditions, ancient peoples and high technology. The
coexistence of diverse tradition, people and technology gives New Mexico
a unique lifestyle that is envied across the United States.
The Mescalero Apache Reservation is
located in the south-central mountains of New Mexico, in a small portion
of a once vast homelands encompassing territory in New Mexico, Arizona,
Texas and Mexico. Elevation on the reservation ranges from 5,400 to 12,000
feet at the peak of Sierra Blanca. Approximately 85% of reservation lands
are forested, of which 241,000 acres are Ponderosa pine and mixed conifer
timber.
