On this day, the World Trade Center towers collapsed
after being attacked with hijacked commercial airliners. The
Pentagon was also attacked with a hijacked commercial airliner.
A fourth airliner was hijacked but crashed in a field south of
Pittsburgh, PA. The terrorist attacks stunned New York,Washington
and the rest of the world and left about 5,000 either confirmed
dead or missing including all those on the hijacked airliners.

A time for sorrow and unity

World Trade Center
building complex in lower Manhattan, New York City, consisting
of seven buildings and a shopping concourse. It is the world's
largest commercial complex, with many businesses, government
agencies, and international trade organizations. Most prominent
are the 110-story rectangular twin towers, one rising to 1,362
ft (415 m) and the other to 1,368 ft (417 m). Designed by Minoru
Yamasaki and Emery Roth, the towers and concourse portion of
the center were completed in 1973 at a cost of $750 million.
*Tower One was 1,368 feet (414 meters) tall
* Tower Two was 1,362 feet (412 meters) tall
* The Tower facades were constructed of aluminum and steel lattice
* The Tower floors were prefabricated trussed steel, 33 inches
deep
* The Towers used tube construction with closely spaced columns
and beams on the outer walls.
* There were no interior columns in the Tower office spaces
* The Towers rested on solid bedrock. The foundations extended
more than 70 feet below ground.
* Each tower contained 104 passenger elevators
* Each tower had 21,800 windows.
* About 50,000 people worked in the World Trade Center complex
The Pentagon
building accommodating the U.S. Dept. of Defense. Located in
Arlington, Va., across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C.,
the Pentagon is a five-sided building consisting of five concentric
pentagons connected to each other by corridors and covering an
area of 34 acres (13.8 hectares). Completed in 1943, it was intended
to consolidate the various offices of the U.S. War Dept., now
the Dept. of Defense.

OUR AMERICA

Our America was bombed, what
a horrible sight,
The people who did it, jump in delight.
They think that they broke us, but that is not true,
We'll pick up the pieces, and build again too.
They think that they've won, and we'll rise no more,
But we stand strong together, for whatever's in store.
Lives have been lost, of the ones that we love,
But God is still with us, in Heaven above.
We might never know, who did this it's true,
But God knows who did, and he'll deal with them too.
Our nation is strong, together we'll stand,
These horrible people, soon we'll disband.
As we pray for the ones, that we lost and have died,
A moment of silence, our tears join as we cried.
America is the home of the free and the brave,
We'll get through this, we will be no mans slave.
As we stand strong together and join in this fight,
May God be with those, who will now go and fight.
Their job is to serve and protect all of us too,
May God be with them, and with all of you too.
