November 04, 2000 - The PT Cruiser participated in the Good Guys in BOW-TIES Car Show in Hatch, NM. It almost didn't happen though. The weather was overcast when we first got up and started to rain just before we were supposed to leave. So we decided to stay home, that is until we got a call to find out why we hadn't joined the twenty other cars that were ready to caravan the 35 miles from Las Cruces to Hatch. Well, we were shamed into getting 'Salsa' out in the inclement weather for the first time. We quickly put everything back into the PT and headed out. We joined the other cars just as they were leaving from the rendezvous. We traveled the backroads through some less than desirable dips in the road (some with mud and/or water over the road). The further north we traveled the less the rain. We all made it safely to Hatch and parked the cars. Norm was prepared and brought a bucket, chamois and some towels. So we spent some time cleaning the car to make it presentable. The weather cleared up later that morning and into the afternoon. It turned out to be a good car show, and we didn't need any sunblock. There was a pretty good turnout of spectators as well. The PT got lots of attention, by all age groups. There was even a couple of folks that said they were real interested in buying a PT now they were able to see one close up.The show was sponsored by the Chevy Car Club but was for anyone that wanted to participate. It was really neat that a '36 Ford was in the show. We were able to see the similarities in design between it and the PT. |
