Speaker Replacement

We decided that we would like to replace the speakers on the Prowler, figuring that what was stock probably could be improved upon. So after some research and reading what other Prowler owners had replaced their speakers with, we decided now was the time. We purchased MB Quart DKC-108 (2-way) for the dash, Infinity Kappa 63.5i (3-way w/crossover) for the door and Infinity Kappa 32.5cf (2-way w/crossover) for the rear. We decided not to replace the subwoofer. Below is information and pics on how-to-do the removal of the old speakers and installation of the new speakers. Most of the below info should apply regardless of replacement speakers.

Note: The wiring setups described below are for our 2001 Prowler. There may be a different one for your car, so be sure to make a note or mark them for (-) or (+) before disassembling.

Note: Since the stock dash speakers had a wiring harness, I made a small (6") wire pigtail with a female connector on one end to connect to the new speaker (included with speakers) and a male connector (not included) on the other end to connect to the stock wiring harness.

1. Install speakers by connecting wires to speaker

Remove Door Panels

1. Remove door handle cover by pulling cover back toward rear of car and pulling out away from the door panel slightly. (Pushing in on door panel may also help.) This could be the hardest part of the entire job.

2. Remove three screws.

3. Pull door panel starting at the front part (closest to the front of the car) working towards the back and pull to release clips. It will require a small amount of force. After clips have been separated from door, lift up door panel to separate from door. (Note: the clips should stay with door panel but sometimes they do not, you will need to remove them from the door and put them on door panel prior to reinstalling the door panel.)

4. Release window harness by pressing down on securing clip. On drivers side release mirror harness by lifting securing tab.

Note: Since the stock rear speakers did not have a harness, I used a tube connector on the Crossover bare wires to connect to the stock wires.

2. Reconnect battery and test to make sure the speaker is operational. Disconnect battery, again, until completely done.

3. Place speakers in opening and secure in place with screws. (Since the speaker fit in the opening is tight you might want to cut off the Crossover female connectors and solder the Crossover wires directly to the speaker terminals. I filed slots in the opening to allow for the connectors and wires to fit.)

4. Place crossovers out of the way. On our Prowler, place crossover on passenger side next to seat belt retractor, on drivers side place crossover behind seat belt retractor (this one can be seen when softtop is not in the down position).
