MAC Motorsports Air Intake

We decided to take on the task of installing a MAC Motorsports Air Intake ourselves. Of course, everything looks easy and if you follow the instructions - no problem. After figuring out a couple of differences between the instructions (2001 air box constructed different than previous years) and the actual removal of the old air box, the task took less than an hour. It does make the job easier if you raise the front end of the car (we used ramps) and four hands are better than two. The Prowler sounds better and now we are hoping for a little more power and better gas mileage. Time will tell.

Writtten instructions below.

Tools required:
Socket set
Straight blade screwdriver
Removal:
· Open hood
· Remove side panel by removing the 3 bolts on the top inside the hood.
· Lift side panel out of the way and note the spacers on some or all of the bolts.
· Undo hose clamp between the air box and the air intake tube (access from top).
· To remove the air box, remove the 2 bolts (one on top, the other is on the bottom) holding it to the car. Air box will come out from underneath the car. (Installers Note: on the MY 2001 there is no bottom bolt, the air box slips into a bracket and therefore is just pushed up and out after removing the top bolt and loosing the clamp to the air intake tube. Also when removing the air box it is suggested that you separate the air box into two parts for easier removal. There are two clamps on the side of the air box that allows for separating the air box.)
Installation:
· Install the silicon coupler onto the factory air intake tube with one of the supplied hose clamps (DO NOT TIGHTEN YET).
· Install the aluminum tube into the silicon coupler and snug in place with the supplied hose clamp (DO NOT TIGHTEN YET).
· Install the heat shield onto the filter by placing the hose clamp over the three prongs of the shield. Do not tighten this clamp yet.
· Install the air filter from the side of the car onto the aluminum tube. Make sure the heat shield is on the bottom side of the filter protecting it from the heat from the exhaust.
· Inspect and make sure everything is in place, then go ahead and tighten all the hose clamps starting from the air intake tube and working your way to the filter.
· Replace the side panel.
