Modified Prowler BIG TACH

We have been looking to get a different look for the Tachometer, didn't like the color of the original so we painted ours, first orange, then black, but really wanted a chrome tach. After seeing that a few folks were changing theirs and we decided that a new tach was in order. Jay Harris from Gold Coast Autotronics has put together a modified chrome tach that looks great and works the same as the original.

We purchased a AutoGauge Chrome Tach (#105-2304) and Strap (#105-3209) from JEG'S, had it shipped to Jay, he modified it and sent it to us. We installed it in just a short time and now we have a look that is very nice.

Mods to BIG TACH by Jay
1. Install Chrome Cat Logo SHIMMERS on tach face... inside, beneath the glass.
2. Install the Blue bulb to match factory lighting.
3. Paint the tach pointer to match factory instrument pointers... the new tach is Black.
4. Install factory style plug to plug into the factory wiring harness.
5. Install "custom" wiring loom to discretely hide the wiring behind the tach.
6. Paint the mounting bracket "Black".
7. Set tach for 6 cylinder operation.
8. Test and return to you via UPS Ground.

How to install the Big Tach

Remove bottom dash panel directly beneath steering wheel

Remove original tach and unplug the connector

Route old wiring harness underneath steering column

Attach Big Tach and adjust

Connect old harness to new harness.
Check to be sure it works:
Turn on lights and rotate the dimmer to check that the Big Tach lighting works correctly.
Start the engine and check to see that the Big Tach pointer responds to increasing engine RPM.
Secure the wiring harness and replace bottom dash panel.

What a difference.
