This is Me

Darrin Loken

AGE: Old enough to know better, but young enough to do it anyway!

STYLES: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country, and just about anything else.

INFLUENCES: Leland Sklar, Geezer Butler, Bob Daizly, Glenn Hughes, Craig Gruber, John Paul Jones, Paul McCartney, Fran Sheehan, Neil Murry, Michael Anthony, and undoubtedly many others who I've heard, but whose names I do not know.

BASSES: A '91 Modulus 5-String, mid-70's Gibson Grabber and early-80's Gibson Victory Artist. The Modulus and the Grabber are my main basses. The Grabber is in great condition now that Barry Martin, owner of Frets and Necks, did all that incredible work on the neck. I also replaced the stock pickup with an active, EMG pickup.

AMPLIFICATION: My rig consists of a 8-space SKB rack, Furman RackRider power conditioner, a Peavey Bass-Fex preamp, a Peavey Pro-Fex MIDI controller, a Carvin F1200, a Peavey 410TX and a 1-15" cabinet.

BIO: I have been playing bass and singing for over 15 yrs. now. I played trumpet thru freshman year in college, but I never felt that I could express myself as freely as I wanted. When I started playing bass I knew that I had found my instrument. I've played in jazz band and church choirs, but my main thing was playing in rock-and-roll bands. I've been in several R&R bands, but none have had any real commercial success; although after the breakup of one band a rumor got started that we were all killed or in a coma. It was really strange having friends come up to me and say "wow, I thought you were in coma...you look pretty good for being under all that time. "

I am also a member of The Bottom Line, which is a group for Bass Players and other like minded musicians. To subscribe to TBL, send email to majordomo@magpie.com with the words:

subscribe bass-digest

This must be in the body of the email. Majordomo will automatically add your address to the list. One other thing, for those of you not familiar with Majordomo, this is a automated mailer...don't put anything other than the above in the email! People have tried this and screwed up the mailings for a few days.

Got something to say? Why don't you drop me a line.
