Hear The Voice of God

In days gone by, both man and animals had the ability to hear the voice of God. Recall Moses talking to God in a burning bush. Recall prophets like Amos trying to intercede with God to prevent him from punishing a sinful people, until God finally gave them one last chance when he said to Amos “ Behold I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel, I will not again pass by them anymore.” Amos was able to hear God and knew that this was a powerful threat! Walk uprightly like this plumb-line or I will lay waste the sanctuaries of Israel. Recall Noah being able to hear God and building the arc just in time.   The animals, also hearing the voice of God, came of their own free will and accord to the arc to be saved from the flood. My favorite, in Numbers 22, is the prophet-for-hire, Balaam, riding his faithful ass to negotiate a fee for putting a curse on the Israelites, which would keep them out of the Promised Land. The ass could see God’s angel in the path holding a sword, and understand his words. Balaam could not see or hear the threat to his life until it was almost too late. Balaam was saved by his ass.

   To this day, animals, simple minded and innocent, still hear God’s voice and retreat to the hills before a tsunami strikes. They are even sometimes able to warn their masters of impending illness. Do you know of any men today who can have a two-way conversation (without drugs) with God?? We have installed “God filters” made with vices and superfluities, our egos, and the concerns and employments of life.

     Did you realize that the degrees of Freemasonry are designed to remove this filter? According to W. Kirk MacNulty in “ Freemasonry,” an Entered Apprentice knows himself as a physical being. In the course of the degree work he will come to know himself as a psychological (self centered) being, and finally in the Master Mason degree he will experience the death of his Self (psychological essence) and become a spiritual being.

   So if Freemasonry did the teaching correctly, and the candidate was mature enough to successfully undergo this transformation, his God filter should now be removed!!

Spiritual beings can communicate with God. Remember the great achievements of Freemasons in our history, and you will know the God of their acceptance must have spoken to and guided them.

   We must now simply fine-tune our receivers, to hear God’s beautiful voice as he prepares us for the eternal life in which each of us has professed to believe.
