Alamogordo Music Theatre (AMT) has announced plans for celebrating its 50th anniversary next April.  The celebration will include an All-Star Revue, featuring some of the best show tunes the group has performed over the past 50 years.  There is also a reunion in the works, and AMT is seeking alumni who have performed in its shows over the years.

“We believe we are the oldest community musical theater group in the Southwest,” said Lynette Wedig, who is chairing the reunion committee.  “We have put on shows every year since 1958, 114 productions in all,” she added.  The productions include 61 different Broadway musicals, several of them presented two or more times over the years.  In addition, the group has performed an occasional melodrama and several works by local playwrights and composers.

The celebration will kick off on April 25th with the All-Star Revue.  The show will run for two nights only.  That same weekend, there will also be a reunion breakfast, which is currently in the planning stages.  Then in August, AMT will present “Guys & Dolls,” the first show the group ever produced, back in 1958.

For the All-Star Revue, the theater group is forming a large chorus composed of individuals who have performed in AMT musicals over the years.  A special e-mail address has been established for interested persons to contact the reunion committee.  The committee would like to hear from alumni, whether or not they are interested in performing in the chorus.  To perform in the chorus, individuals must be available for rehearsals, beginning in January; however, all alumni are invited to participate in the reunion, whether or not they are interested in performing in the Revue chorus.  Interested alumni should contact the committee at: amt1958@hotmail.com .  Provide the committee with your name, the name of the show(s) and years(s) of the productions in which you participated, and whether or not you are interested in performing in the Revue chorus.  For individuals without e-mail, the same information can be provided to the committee at the following address:  AMT, ATTENTION Anniversary Committee, P.O. Box 266, Alamogordo, NM 88310.

“We hope to hear from everyone who has ever participated in an AMT show, whether or not  they are interested in participating in the chorus.  The reunion breakfast, itself, will be a lot of fun, and give our alumni a chance to get together and remember the good times they had in AMT shows,” Wedig said.
