High School Musical
Director: Jeremy Patton
Performance Dates:
August 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, and 16
Synopsis:
The Disney Channel's smash
hit musical comes to life on stage at
the Flickinger!
On the front steps of East High, it’s the first day after
winter break. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes find their
cliques, recount their vacations, and look forward to the new year. But
Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez - unbeknownst to their fellow classmates - are
about to throw a huge monkey wrench into the accepted order of things at East
High. It seems that while vacationing with their families, Troy (the Jock) and
Gabriella (the Braniac) meet and discover a mutual love of karaoke.
When they return to school and decide to try out for the winter musical,
they threaten to totally disrupt the social order of East High’s highly
stratified (though unofficial) “caste system.”
Finding their assigned “roles” confining, they risk ridicule and derision
in an effort to break out of their respective cliques.
Despite the efforts of other students to thwart their plans and maintain
the “status quo”, Troy and Gabriella succeed in resisting all of the peer
pressure and petty rivalries. In
doing so, they inspire others to be true to themselves and follow their dreams.
