RWS (Range While Search) Air To Air Radar Training for For Janes F/A-18 November 26, 2000 Bob 'Recluse' Tullman (bobtull@mindspring.com Thank you for trying my training missions for Janes F/A-18. Feedback is welcome! This mission will familiarize you with the RWS submode of the F/A-18 Air to Air Radar. The concepts are applicable to other submodes which **MAY** be covered in future missions. Here are some notes to help you install and fly this mission: A) Basics Extract the file RWS RadarTraining.cmf into either the MISSION subdirectory of your FA-18 directory or the TRAINING subdirectory. In the former case, you would select it from the menu on the SINGLE MISSIONS page. In the latter case, you would find it on the menu from the TRAINING page. Print out the file RWSTraining.rtf (readable with WordPad) to use as a guide when flying the mission. It contains the information found in the mission voiceovers and text. B) The Mission This mission illustrates some simple but important concepts in the use of the Air to Air radar to locate and lock aerial targets. This mission arose out of a discussion on the Combatsim.com F/A-18 forum on difficulties in finding targets called out by AWACS or wingmen. This training mission won't answer all those questions, but I hope it will give a basic introduction to the factors involved in using the radar to find targets. I am far from being an expert on either the 'real life' or simulated APG-73 radar, so any corrections in what I have written here will be gratefully accepted. Get in the air and good hunting!
