The search for the parents of John Fitzgerald has been tenuous. He is thought to have been born in Georgia. The John F. Sr. and Jr. combination in Floyd County, GA (1860, 1870, 1880) does not fit the known dates of John Fitzgerald and his oldest William A.

Another possible step backward is the 1880 Franklin County, GA record for John F. McKay, 30, Martta A. 26, William A. 5, and Laura S. 1, all born in Georgia. This is perhaps the same John McKay and Martha in 1870 Fannin County, Georgia.

All census records for the John Fitzgerald children indicate they were born in Texas. Also, were there two wives? Samuel McKay's death record has his mother's maiden name as "Jones." The long distance from Franklin County in NE Georgia to the Red Mud Community in SW Dickens County, TX is noted.

John Fitzgerald died 27 Feb 1900. On 26 June, his widow and children are in the 1900 Census,TX Dickens, Pct. 3 household of oldest son W. A. McKay.

William Albert and Samuel Wright married Smith cousins, who are not directly related to Hatti McKay's husband, John Zachery Smith.
Jesse married Mary A. Floyd. Jesse F. 42, is found in the 1920 Census at at Post, Garza, TX (adjacent to the Dickens/Kent area) with wife Mary A. 38 and daughter Anna D. 19.
Samuel McKay is shown in the Ancestral Pics, Elijah Copeland Family
Supposedly, Bettie married a man from Kansas and moved there. She had two daugahter and was killed in a car wreck when the children were small. The girls were raised by their aunt Hatti McKay Smith and returned to Kansas when grown.
Archie is found in 1900 TX Dickens Census in the household of older brother William Albert, at age 7, born Jan 1893. He died at age 21.
