will be, must be a serious decision.
Which better
serves my pages, backgrounds
or borders? Backgrounds
are normally a single color, single picture, or an image that repeats itself
over the entire area of the page. A bordered background uses an image only
on part of the viewing area, and a larger area for text. This site uses
"Borders", like the Black border on the left.

Some things
to consider are:
-
Text should
be easily read thought the background.
-
Backgrounds
should be easily associated with the content of the page. A background
with pictures of tigers, may not be the best background for a story about
how to fix tube type radios. Although it may be very colorful, it may not
convey the message your trying to get across.
-
Load time.
Some backgrounds and borders are quicker loading than others. Their file
size varies, and when choosing a background this should be a consideration.
If your pages contain alot of graphics, try using smaller file size backgrounds.
Or if a background is a large file size, on your first page, use more text
- less graphics to allow the background to load into the computer "cache",
it will then load quicker on pages that have a large amount of graphics.
-
Change backgrounds
on pages only when necessary. The pages of your site will load quicker
if you use the same background on different pages. Even backgrounds that
are similar, will need the full time to load if you change them.
Computers see each background as a new file to load no matter how similar
they are.
