Buddies' Web Page Options - Frames vs.
No Frames

What
are Frames? Should I use Frames on my pages?
Look around this page. There
are 2 sections.
The top sections is a banner,
Buddies'
Internet Creations, and it is always there, even when you go
to another page. It is the upper part of the frame. We chose the
upper
section to have the navigation bar on it to make the site easy to navigate.
The lower
section shows the contents of the page with a scroll on the right side.
There is also a second navigation bar at the bottom of each page. This
is for "browser" that is not frame - enabled, or for the visitor that prefers
a no - frames version of our website. |

Frames
Good Points
-
Excellent Site
Navigation
-
Allows better
use of some graphics, and speeds load time of secondary pages.
-
Allows URL
(addresses) hiding of some pages giving the visitor the effect of not leaving
you site.
(Good for
site owner)
-
Frames can
be made to not
allow visitors to leave your site easily. In effect of trapping them in
your frames. (Good or Bad, your decision)

Frames
Bad Points

For smaller
monitors, the site appears very confined, or limited. Even on large monitors,
if frames are excessive, the site can seem overcrowded.
-
First time
viewing of a framed site, may be slow loading due to graphics from 2 or
more pages loading at once.

MORE INFO ||
-
Not all computers
can view frames. (most computers can view
frames) It depends on what "brower" is
being used. Also, not all visitors like frames. When building your site,
consider making a nonframes
version to allow those who prefer not to use them, to turn them off.
-
Give an escape
route, if your site does not have an exiting
feature. If their are no links breaking your frames and leaving your site
a visitor may be discouraged with you and your site, and may not want to
visit it again. Somewhere, that is easy to find leave a link to another
site that allows them to continue on surfing.
Example:
Our EXIT on the
upper frame goes to YAHOO®
(Hit
your Back button to Return)
