TRAINING AND ACTIVITIES

The Cadet program helps train young men and women to become the leaders of the future in whatever they decide to do.  The Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program may include, but is not limited to, flying, aerospace education, survival skills, rescue and first aid, and radio communications as well as the study of navigation, weather, and aviation.  Cadets are eligible for orientation flights in CAP aircraft.  Civil Air Patrol Cadets are trained in drill and ceremonies, leadership, physical fitness, and moral development.  Membership in the Civil Air Patrol does not obligate a cadet to join any of the United States armed forces.  However, if cadets do elect to join the Air Force, and have achieved the Mitchell award as cadets, they are eligible to start out in the advanced pay grade of E-3, after completing Air Force Basic Training.

Frequently, CAP cadets attend exciting local, national and international activities, in addition to their training programs.  Some of these may include participation in search and rescue missions, training and education at Air Force and other Department of Defense installations, travel to a foreign country through the International Air Cadet Exchange Program, attendance at summer encampments and more.

Glider Program

New Mexico has an active glider program which is available to Civil Air Patrol Cadets.  Here, the glider with a cadet and the senior member instructor pilot is readied for flight.

The Tow Plane is Ready

The tow plane, a Cessna 182 Skylane, stands ready as the tow rope is attached by the Cadet crew.
A CAP Senior instructor monitors all activities.

TAKEOFF
