Air Search in New Mexico can be - challenging

Search and Rescue

Air

Civil Air Patrol air crews are trained in search techniques and methods both visual and electronic which have been developed by the CAP over more than 50 years.

CAP Flying Activities Include:  Search and Rescue, Red Cross blood/tissue missions, state and local government missions, cadet orientation flights, disaster relief missions, Civil Defense missions, flight clinics and more

Ground

The Civil Air Patrol in New Mexico cooperates with the New Mexico State Police and State Search and Rescue authorities who license  and coordinate locally administered ground teams.  Civil Air Patrol, when requested, deploys ground teams equipped with electronic direction finders.

Electronic

The Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, Scott AFB, Ill., monitors and tracks satellites which carry on-board Electronic Locator Transmitter    detection equipment.  Each Civil Air Patrol aircraft and most CAP squadrons are equipped with the most modern radio direction finding equipment which can be used to quickly narrow the search.
