Senior Member skills and backgrounds are as varied and as the individual.   The common element is that all Senior Members are volunteers.

Aviation activities can be a part of the Civil Air Patrol volunteer experience.  However, Civil Air Patrol membership is not limited just to pilots.

AVIATION ACTIVITIES

Civil Air Patrol pilots fly approximately 80 percent of all search and rescue hours requested by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, Scott AFB, Ill.  CAP has more than 500 corporate aircraft located around the country.  Flying is not free, but is usually less expensive than rental aircraft.  Members may also fly their own aircraft for CAP activities.
Reimbursement for fuel, oil, and maintenance is available on selected Air Force missions, Red Cross missions, Customs missions, and some state
missions.

AEROSPACE
EDUCATION

The Aerospace Education program allows members to serve their community in a different way.  Part of  the training will provides members with a broad understanding of aerospace.  Civil Air Patrol also has Aerospace Education programs and materials for use in our nation's schools.

Senior Member Emergency Services Participation

Senior members may participate in various aspects of Civil Air Patrol Emergency Services missions according to their skill levels.  Emergency Services teams include flight crews, Mission Coordinators, radio operators and the various administrative and ground support teams, and in New Mexico, ground teams which participate in electronic search.

Participation in Cadet Activities

Senior members provide aviation orientation, guidance and supervision for CAP cadets.   Interested seniors have an opportunity to work with these youngsters in the many cadet units located throughout the country.  Senior members with a military background are ideal candidates for the Cadet program, but any individual who enjoys young people can make a valuable contribution
