PSP Tutorial - Oriental Fan

	YOU WILL NEED
	Paint Shop Pro Download a trial version here Super Blade Pro Download a trial version of Super Blade Pro here Marvella's gold_glitter Super Blade Pro Preset If anyone has a current URL for Marvella Please let me know Rounded Line - If you don't have one, my Chocolates tutorial tells how to make one. Basic knowledge of vectors and layers
	Remember to SaveOften STEPS - These are the steps I used.
1.	Lets Begin
	New Image 500 x 500 File/Save As: fan.psp Flood Fill with a medium color to make it easier to see what you are drawing. I used #4EC079
2.	Make Some Guides
	New VectorLayer: guides 1 Foreground: #FF0000 Background: Null Preset Shape: Ellipse Line Width: 1 Antialias: Checked Create as vector: checked Line style: #1 solid Place the cursor on 10, 10 Click and drag to 490, 490 Draw Tool Type: Single Line Width: 8 Line style: solid line Antialias: checked Create as vector: checked Place cursor at about 3, 3 Hold down the Shift Key and draw a line to the opposite corner Note: Holding down the Shift Key will only let you draw lines at 45° increments Object Selector Right click/ Align/Center in canvas Place the cursor at about 496, 3 and draw another diagonal line to the opposite corner Object Selector Right click/ Align/Center in canvas
3.	More Guides
	New VectorLayer: guides 2 Foreground: #000000 Background: Null Preset Shape: Starburst 3 Line Width: 1 Antialias: Checked Create as vector: checked Line style: #1 solid Place the cursor on 25, 25 Click and drag to 475, 475 Object Selector Right click/ Align/Center in canvas Place cursor on 175, 175 Click and drag to 325, 325 Object Selector Right click/ Align/Center in canvas These are the guides for drawing the fan
4.	The Spokes
	New VectorLayer: spokes Foreground: #ECCEA4 Background: Null Draw Tool Type: Point to Point Line Width: 8 Line style: rounded line Antialias: checked Create as vector: checked Click at one point on the large guide then on the corresponding one on the small guide Right click/ Quit Node Editing Continue adding spokes until the fan is open as much as you want Layer Palette Click on the spoke layer and drag it below the guides for now
5.	The Fan
	New VectorLayer: fan Foreground: Null Background: #FFFFFF Draw Tool Type: Point to Point Line Antialias: checked Create as vector: checked Close path: checked Start at one edge and click the point Then click the valley next to it continue clicking around the top of the fan until you reach the other edge Move down to the inner circle and continue clicking peaks and valleys Then back up to where you started Right click/ Quit Node Editing
6.	Adjust the Spokes
	You now have the main part of the fan I know you can't see the spokes now, we are going to fix that right now Make spokes the active layer Layers/ Arrange/ Bring to top Move guides 2 just below this layer so you can see the points Object Selector Click on the first spoke Right click/ Node Edit Grab the top node and pull it out to the red guide line Grab the bottom node and pull it to the point where the red lines cross Check to see that the spokes are still lined up with the points. Adjust if necessary Do this for each spoke
7.	Smooth Out The Fan
	Delete the two guide layers Move the fan layer to the top Object Selector Click on the shape Right click/ Node Edit Click on one of the valley points CTRL + S to make it symmetric Then push it up slightly to make more of a curve Right Click/ quit Node Editing Do this for all of the valley points top and bottom Zoom in to see the bottom points better
8.	The Folds
	New VectorLayer: folds Foreground: #C0C0C0 Background: Null Draw Tool Type: Point to Point Line Width: 1 Line style: solid line Antialias: checked Create as vector: checked Click on one point then down to the corresponding point on the bottom Right click/ Quit Node Editing Continue making lines for all the points and valleys to make the fan folds
9.	The Edges
	New Vectorlayer: edges Make Spokes the Active Layer Object Selector Click on one of the edge spokes Hold down the Shift key and click the other edge spoke Right click/ Copy Make edge the active layer right click/ Paste as new vector object Line these up with the lower ones Right click/ Properties Change stroke width: to 10
10.	The Tails
	New VectorLayer: tails Foreground: #FFFFFF Background: Null Draw Tool Type: Freehand Line Line width: 10 Line style: rounded Antialias: checked Create as vector: checked Close path: NOT checked Draw two flowing lines for the strings
11.	Saving the Shape
	Save your work Shift + D to make a copy Close the original I save this copy as: work because I delete it when I am done Also because when you group vector objects they all end up on the same layer I like to do sub groups and also name my objects. This way when I use the shape I am not fishing for the parts if I want to edit something. Because the background is a Raster Layer grouping will not effect it so leave it turned on if it makes viewing easier Turn off all layers except the tails Object Selector Draw a box around the two lines Right Click/ Group Layer Palette Click the + next to tails Double Click on Group 1 Rename it tails Click the + beside this layer Double click on each freehand layer Rename string 1 and string 2 Click the - signs to close them back up Turn off this layer and turn on edge Group and name as above Turn off this layer and turn on folds Group and rename as above Turn off this layer and turn on fan Because there is only one object on this layer I just renamed drawing to fan Turn off this layer and turn on spokes Group and name as above Turn all layers back on Object Selector Draw a box around the entire fan Right click/ Group Now you will see Group 5 with all the other groups below it and all the new names have remained Double Click on Group 5 and rename it: Fan File/Export/Shape Give it a name Click OK Now check to make sure it is there Make Layer 1 the Active Layer Layers/View/ Current Only Preset Shape: Fan Retain shape: checked Create as vector: checked Draw out your fan Layer Palette You should have a new Vectorlayer there Take a look and you will see that all the sub groups and names are there. Close out work.psp and you can now delete it.
