Exception:A friend of mine, Sharron Austin/Lady Fox, has my permission to have this tutorial posted on her website http://www.zianet.com/cdrmom/LF/tute_index.htm *************************************** To save an image as a JPG you can compress the image by quite a lot to make a smaller file size and save loading time too! PSP makes this real easy by following these steps. Screen Shots are of PSP7 but I have included notes for PSP6. There is hardly a difference! 1. Whatever size image you have you can drastically reduced the file size by compressing it. Just go to File/Export/JPEG Optimizer as shown here in PSP7. If you are using PSP6 it's File/Export/JPEG File.
2. A new window will open showing you a "before" and "after" view. For this screen shot I compressed the image by 95! I don't think anyone does that, LOL! Look at the preview of what the image would look like ... what a mess! Also check out the file size of the uncompressed image, a huge 230,440 bytes! That's 230 KB! Compressed at 95 makes it a mere 2596 bytes (2 KB). I think we can handle a bigger file than that .....
3. This one is compressed by 15. I usually start at 10 and work my way up. I also move the image around in the preview window (put your cursor over it, hand appears, click and drag) and compare it to the "before" window. Once I am satisfied with the file size and that there is no effect to the image I click OK and save it! This works the same in PSP6.
I hope this helps :o) You can have a 300x400 image and easily compress it so that it can be seen in all it's glory. No need to resize these images so tiny! The title image above is a jpg, 400 x 300 ... uncompressed it was 360KB so I compressed it by 15 and it is 27KB (give or take a byte!!) Oh, and to really speed things up for you, you can customize your toolbar to have the "JPEG Optimizer" (PSP6 would be Export as JPEG File) right in your toolbar so you can just click on it!
