This tutorial was done with PSP9   
but could be done with version 8 or higher.

All of my tutorials are written following the steps I used to make my graphic.   
It is my hope that you will take what I provide 
and do your own thing with it. 

 

YOU WILL NEED

Paint Shop Pro -  Download a trial version 
Brush Settings
Need Color Palette
Basic knowledge of layers and locations  

Remember to SaveOften
STEPS - These are the steps I used.

1.

Lets Begin

New Image  500x400
File/Save As: Summer
I used a new layer for each item and named them the same as the items on the color chart. The brushes are also named corresponding to the layer names.

Open the Brush Settings page and print it out.  Keep it handy for reference while you work.  All the brush settings are listed there.

Open palette.jpg and keep it on your desktop.  A hint for using the palette. 
When you have a brush selected just hold down the Ctrl Key and run the mouse over the color you want to use.  Left Click for a Foreground Color and Right Click for a Background Color.

 Sketch

Layer: sketch
Color: sketch
Brush: sketch

Sketch in where you plan to place things

3.

 Sky

Layer: sky
Colors: sky

Gradient - Foreground-Background
Style: Linear
Angle: 0
Repeats: 1

Flood Fill with the gradient
Use the Move Tool to move the sky if desired

4.

 Grass

Layer: grass
Colors: grass

Gradient - Foreground-Background
Style: Linear
Angle: 0
Repeats: 0

Noise
5%
Gaussian
Monochrome

5.

 Clouds

Layer: clouds
Colors: clouds
Brush: clouds

Smudge Brush

Smudge in circles for Cumulus Clouds
Smudge back and forth for Cirrus Clouds

6.

 Sun

Layer: sun
Colors: sun
Brush: sun

Place the brush and click once

7.

 Dirt

Layer: dirt
Color: dirt
Brush: dirt

Add Noise
Amount 5%
Gaussian
Monochrome

8.

 Bricks

Layer: bricks
Colors: bricks
Brush: bricks

You can change Size of the Brush by one pixel at a time by pressing the following:
Alt+C to increase
Alt+X to decrease

 Grass 2

Layer: grass 2
Colors: grass 2
Brush: grass 2

Move this layer below the brick layer

10.

Grass 3 

Layer: grass 3
Colors: grass 2
Brush: grass 2

Paint grass on other side of walk
11. Fence

 

 Layer: fence
Colors: fence
Brush: fence

12.

 Gate
  Layer: gate
Color: gate
Brush: gate

13.

 Dirt 2
  Layer: dirt 2
Color: dirt
Brush: dirt 2

Add Noise
Amount 8%
Gaussian
Monochrome

 Vines
  Layer: vines
Colors: vines
Brush: vines

Paint some vines along the fence

 Flowers 1
  Layer: flowers 1
Colors: flowers 1
Brush: vines

Add some flowers to the vines

Lower layer opacity to 62

Place a green top on the tree

I started with a brush size of 10 at the very top and increased it up to 25 as I worked down the trunk using
Alt+C to increase
Alt+X to decrease
I also painted in a slight J stroke

Experiment to find what works for you

Note: I found it easier to control the brush if I zoomed in to about 200

Add some highlights

Paint in some background bushes
