Brooches

Arising out of my attempt to define my life experiences, each piece is an original one-of-a-kind, fabricated from many small pieces. Just as our lives contain secrets, many of these pieces contain texts or secret inclusions which are not apparent to the casual viewer; they are for you to share when—and if—you choose.

Buxton The future does not happen as it has been planned.

Uncovered Seclusion I need to be myself around you, not cover up my feelings. We were each resigned to our own separate worlds, conversation was alone, secrets were not shared.

Her Soul She climbed the fence to the gingerbread world when she left she took her soul. Trying to fit in finally seemed futile, criticism was great, but my soul was not harmed and I went on living.

Tension of Distortion Talk is intimate. Talk stops when intimacy stops. Even in a distorted situation the tension builds when the talk diminishes.

In Her Own Time Make the decision which is right for you. The right decision allows my thoughts to go inward, believe in myself, know my feelings are credible. Believing in myself allows me to give.

Duty Freed The duty is to myself.

Artist's Notes

Success to me is feeling a sense of completion and accomplishment in my work. Each of these pieces has been a step in believing and understanding myself. The accomplishment comes as I see this growth in my being. The completion will be forever.

As each piece has worked its way to the right solution I have grown. The symbols used are only one path to their meaning. Each time I reexamine an earlier piece I see more connections to my experiences than I realized when I first conceived the piece.

Therefore, I expect you to make your own connection to the wearables, small sculptures and text that you experience in this collection. The connections you make and feel are just as valid as mine, though they may be completely different. I ask you to let yourself be open to your thoughts and believe in what you feel.
