THE FATHER AND THE SON,
THE TWO GODS
OF THE
OLD TESTAMENT
Vol. 12, No. 4, April 1995.
For more than a hundred years, a controversy has existed among the different sects over the identity of the God of the Old Testament — whether God the Father or God the Son. In the midst of all this, each side of the argument has mustered their own set of proof texts from the Bible in support of their own position. In recent years the same question has been raised in Mormon circles over the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants. In all of this, the Biblical problems relating to the controversy have been explored, but to date no definite answer, which brings harmony out of chaos, has been presented to the world.
This then becomes the focus of this issue of
Doctrine of the Priesthood — Who does the Biblical text identify as Yahweh, God of
the Old Testament — God the Father, or God the Son? In the midst of
this discussion, many proof texts are brought forward and considered
in a new light. In the process, an unexpected answer to the question
emerges, which both contradicts and complements both sides of the
controversy.
