THE TEACHINGS
OF PRESIDENT
BRIGHAM YOUNG
Vol. 3, 1852-1854

An exquisite collection of previously unpublished or unavailable discourses from President Brigham Young. These speeches
are not found in the Journal of Discourses.

Each speech is fully documented, with sources such as the Brigham Young Papers, from the Historical Department of the Church. Most of the speeches were reported by George D. Watt — Church stenographer and a master of Pittman shorthand. This ability enabled Watt to record these speeches precisely as they were given — they are complete and verbatim.

Hear Brigham Young at the height of his career — secure in the mountain fastness of Deseret at the peak of its glory — where he could openly speak his mind to the saints, completely untrammeled by sectarian and governmental influence.

Time and time again, President Young declares to the saints the mysteries and doctrine of the Kingdom of God. Hear him lecture on such topics as Slavery, the Negro doctrine, Blood Atonement and the Resurrection. Hear him explain how Adam came to this Earth as an immortalized being from another planet. Hear him discuss marriage, divorce, and the controversies of the day. For the first time ever, the whole man Brigham Young will be presented to the world as has never before been possible. Through his own sayings he is presented in all the colors of the spectrum — as he expressed himself in his own words — in moments of candor when at ease — in moments of frustration with the Saints — in serene moments when under the influence of the peaceable joy of the spirit — at times of anger when he intimidates the wicked — as well as in moments of humor when he makes jokes with the boys. In this volume both the man and the Prophet — the President and the Governor will be portrayed in all the color if his personality.

For every student of Mormon theology this work is a must. Included is a immaculate table of contents, listing in chronological order not only the speeches given in this volume, but also those speeches printed in the Journal of Discourses, the Deseret News and the Millennial Star, serving the reader with easy access to all available speeches given by President Young. Also the detailed cross-reference system, along with a complete scripture index gives the reader an entire new realm to explore the world of theology as expressed by President Young. All this along with a comprehensive index will serve to illuminate President Brigham Young as "a profound theologian" and Prophet of God. For scholars, teachers and students alike, The Teachings of President Brigham Young is a virtual treasure — a book that will highlight any bookshelf. $24.95
