The Alameda Park Zoo was established in 1898 and is the oldest zoo in the southwest. It was merely a pleasant place for railway travelers to stop and enjoy a little change from the desert scene while the steam powered locomotives were refueled. It only contained a small collection of waterfowl and deer at it's original start up, but today is home for nearly 300 animals from over 90 different species.
Stop by and listen to a waterfall trickle in the background while the otters frolic and play, or watch a fawn graze on grass while you sit and enjoy the peaceful tranquility of this fragile creature. |
