Born in 1953 and raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico,
my father was a machinist at White Sands Missile Range for over 35
years and my mother was a small business owner and homemaker. I have
two older brothers one here in Las Cruces and one living in El Paso.
I married my husband, William Connor, in 1992 and it was at time we
blended our families together. Of our three children, our oldest,
Kristin M. Connor, 23, is a graduate of Pomona College in International
Relations. Our son, Jacob Rodriguez, 21, recently graduated from the
Art Institute of California-Los Angeles in Multimedia, and our youngest,
Samantha Connor, 14, will be starting her freshman year at Las Cruces
High School, active in volleyball and basketball. I am a proud product
of the Las Cruces Public School district as I attended MacArthur Elementary,
Alameda Junior High and am a 1971 graduate of Mayfield High School.
I attended New Mexico State University, but after my first year I
began working for the Las Cruces Public Schools in the Migrant Program.
During my employment with the schools I also was a first grade teachers
aide and the East Picacho Elementary Secretary. It was in 1975 that
I changed careers and went to work for Mutual Building & Loan
as a teller. In my 18 years employed with Mutual, I worked in every
department and completed my tenure as the Vice President of Operations.
It was during those years that I began my community involvement in
civic organizations through board appointments and as a fundraiser.
In 1993, I purchased and became a partner in a local business, C.
Taylor & Co. in which we recently sold. As a mother, spouse, banker,
civic volunteer and small business owner I am committed to keeping
Las Cruces a wonderful place to live, work, retire and raise a family.
