WELCOME CONTENDER WORKING DOGS
Nina Lanphere, Certified Master Trainer, established Contender Working Dogs in 1983. Growing up in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Nina Lanphere graduated from Las Cruces HS and attended New Mexico State University before enlisting in the US Army in 1974. She served as a Military Policewoman at Presidio of San Francisco, California, and in the Panama Canal Zone. In Panama she acquired her first Doberman "Tassie" and trained her in accordance with military police traditions. Returning to California, she went on to train with Gerald Smith of Santa Clara, CA, and began competing in AKC Obedience Trials. She completed her first Companion Dog title in 1979 with her Doberman "Moby". Upon realizing she wanted to devote herself professionally to dog training she attended Mandelyn Kennels School for Dog Trainers and graduated at the top of her Master Trainer/Instructor class. Nina Lanphere continued to compete in AKC and UKC Obedience Trials completing titles on 5 Dobermans, 2 German Shepherds, a Great Dane, 2 Border Collies, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and 2 Pitbulls. Discovering Agility Trials in 1993, Nina was instantly addicted. She travels extensively to compete with multiple breeds in three agility organizations (NADAC, USDAA & AKC). Primarily devoted to the NADAC style of agility she became a NADAC Judge in 1995. She usually competes at NADAC Nationals with more than one dog.
