DASO's SRT 2004 Advanced SWAT School Information

Dates:  March 14 through March 18, 2005
Location: Dona Ana Co. Sheriff's Dept., Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
Cost: $200 per person
Eligibility: Open to tactical law enforcement operators and military police and/or special ops. personnel.
Applicants must provide a Certification of Completion from a Basic SWAT School. Fundamentals of Basic SWAT Tactics will not be taught. This class is for the experienced operator. Operators will be encouraged to complete the DASO SRT physical fitness challenge course.
Class Size: Class size will be limited to 20 (not including DASO operators).
Accreditation: Accredited for 40 hours of advanced level training through NM DPS. To receive a certificate of completion, attendees must pass both the primary and secondary day firearms qualification courses as well as a written test covering the material taught in this course.

 

Lead Instructors:

Captain Brent Barlow:
Captain Barlow has been employed with Dona Ana County as a Sheriff's Deputy since 1995. He has been a member of the Special Response Team since 1998 and is currently the Team Commander. Capt. Barlow has earned his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from New Mexico State University and has been through numerous Basic and Advanced SWAT courses as well as being a graduate of the Military Police's SRT Counter Drug School, SWAT Commander School, LASO SEB Advanced SWAT School, and has hundreds of hours of advanced level training as recognized by the NM DPS. Capt. Barlow also holds a certificate in K-9/SWAT Interaction Deployment, is a Certified Aerial Observer, Certified SWAT Instructor, and is Light Sound Distraction Device certified. In addition, Capt. Barlow had been granted his Advanced Level II Law Enforcement Certificate.

Investigator John Lovelace:
Investigator Lovelace has been with the Sheriff's Department since 1995 and has been a member of the Special Response Team since 1998. Investigator Lovelace is the Team Leader and a Colt SMG operator/grenadier. Inv. Lovelace has an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Administration of Justice and is a graduate of the Department's basic SWAT school and the Military Police's SRT Counter Drug School. Additionally, Inv. Lovelace is a certified general and SWAT instructor and a certified Sage Co. instructor.

Deputy Armando Gonzales:
Deputy Gonzales has been with the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department since 1998 and has been on the Special Response Team since 1999. He is an Assistant Team Leader, rappel master, and Colt SMG operator. Deputy Gonzales has completed DASO's SWAT/SRT school and is also a graduate of the Military Police's SRT Counter Drug School.

Lieutenant Paul Stinnett:
Lieutenant Paul Stinnett has been employed with the New Mexico State University Police Dept. as an officer since 1997. He has been a member of the Special Response Team since 2001. Lt. Stinnett is a patrol section supervisor for NMSU and fulfills many other duties with the university police department. Lt. Stinnett holds a Bachelor's degree in general studies from New Mexico Tech, was a infantry Captain with the USMC, and has been a police officer for the past 18 years. He is a police defensive tactics instructor and a rappel master. Lt. Stinnett is also a graduate of the DASO basic SRT course.

Adjunct Instructors:
DASO SRT Team members have been trained by some notable organizations, including but not limited to: Former SEAL Team Six members, a former DELTA Force member, members of LAPD SWAT, LASO SWATand the Military Police’s SRT/Counter Drug personnel, to name a few.

Course Details:

Curriculum:
One and half days of Rappeling

One day of Live Fire Range Drills (Porting, Obstacle Course, Tire House, Steel targets, Moving and shooting, "Dancing Bear")

Mad Medic cook-out at the Range

Half-day of Live Fire Vehicle Assaults

One and a half days of Hostage Rescue (Class room and Practicals including Live Fire in Tire House)

Half-Day/Night of Live Fire Tire House Scenarios

Each Participant Must Bring:
All tactical gear including gas mask, tactical vest, kevlar, BDUs. etc.

750 rounds secondary weapon

750 rounds for primary weapon (if rifle caliber it must be soft or hollow point)

2 LSDDs per person (optional)

Rappel gear (harness, 8-descender eight, carabiners)

Eye and ear protection
