POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

JOB TITLE:       Tactical Medic / Reserve Deputy (non-commissioned)
OPEN PERIOD:  02-28-03 to 03-30-03
LOCATION:       Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department
PAY RANGE:     Volunteer Position

The Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department Special Response Team has immediate openings for 3 Specialty Deputy Tactical Medic’s. Tactical Medics will be expected to perform the following duties:

  • Provide basic and advanced life support for injured team members, bystanders and suspects.
  • Tactical Medical Support performed in accordance with all written and hospital medical control protocols, standing orders, and operate within his/her scope of practice.
  • Tactical Medics will be expected to function as a regular member of the tactical element to which they are assigned.
  • Assist in obtaining the medical histories of hostages and suspects to assist in developing tactics.
  • Maintain and monitor the medical history, immunization status and current health status on each team member.
  • Assess, predict and monitor the physiological effects of the mission environment on individuals and team performance.
  • Monitor and maintain the mission ready status of all medical supplies and related equipment.
  • Tactical Medics will be required to meet and maintain team shooting qualification requirements as set forth by the SRT/TEMS SOP for the tactical element.
  • Tactical Medics will be required to meet the same training requirements as other elements of the tactical team.
  • Ability to respond to mission activation in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Application Requirements:

  1. Tactical Medics must be currently licensed in New Mexico as an EMT-IV or EMT-P. Must have at least 5 years experience in a full time capacity with a Fire or EMS Agency.
  2. Preference will be given to applicants who have military Combat Medical training or completion of other specialized training in Tactical Emergency Medical Support.
  3. Completion certification as "Emergency Medical Technician - Tactical" through C.O.N.T.O.M.S or the New Mexico Tactical EMS Course.
If accepted, applicants will be expected to successfully complete required training and assessment provided by the Department, receive approval from the Department and the Team Medical Director prior to providing emergency medical services within the inner perimeter of tactical operations.
