As long as I can remember, I have always enjoyed drawing or painting anything that captures my eye. But, most of all, it usually captures my heart first before I start putting that pen or brush on paper.
I received my first oil painting lesson at 10 years old when I lived in Louisiana. When I was 12 years old, I moved to Texas and continued to learn more about art in various forms throughout junior and high school. In 1983, after high school, I was admitted to Richmond University, Richmond, England where I received my formal art education. Having had the opportunity to see art in Europe made my dream come true. In 1987, I received my BA in Studio Art with a concentration in Drawing. I studied drawing and painting under the direction of Dr. Ralph Lillford and Dr. John Dickerson.
Not only was I able to see all the fascinating historical paintings and sculptures at several different galleries in London, Paris and Rome, but my love and admiration for beautiful cottages, lush scenery, and quaint villages in the countryside grew stronger everyday. I began a series of pen & ink drawings of the quaint English villages primarily as a form of enjoyment as well as for memorable purposes. To this day, I still have these drawings that will always remind me of the good memories I had while living in England.
I moved back to the States right after college and lived in Doylestown, PA, a beautiful setting within Bucks County. It was here that I noticed the old Colonial style houses, stone houses and farmhouses which reminded me so much of England. Although I held various full-time jobs as a graphic artist, desktop publisher, and administrative assistant to support myself financially, I still found the time to draw historical scenes around Bucks County, particularly the old farm houses. Since then I have had several group and solo shows in the area. In addition, I drew house portraits on a commission basis.
I was promoted to a new position with a major oil company which required me to move back to Texas (back to my homeland!) After four years working in a stuffy office, I decided to quit and move to the Land of Enchantment and make a living as a full-time artist. I now currently reside in Ruidoso, a beautiful town in the mountains of southeastern New Mexico. Since I have been here, I have discovered another kind of beauty that one would not find in England or northeastern part of USA - the Old West! The beauty of the rugged mountains, cool air and the clean smell of pine in this area are definitely true inspirations for any artist.
My pen & ink and watercolor paintings have travelled to homes around the world. As an artist, it is my desire to create a painting that portrays beauty in its own way. I only hope that my work gives you as much pleasure as I have had creating it. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments that you may have.
