James Richard Hassall Sr with wife Catherine oldest son William Richard and youngest son James Richard. The baby James Richard Hassall Jr was my father. As close as I can trace this picture was taken probably in East Liverpool, Ohio where my grandfather worked as a potter. I know that he made many pottery figures. I also know that my Grandfather immigrated to the United States from Wales, through Canada. He came that way because the quotas were higher for Canada than they were for Wales. He was rumored to have been in or near Toronto, Canada for about three years before qualifying for citizenship as a Canadian Citizen. He then immediatly applyed to immigrate to the United states. I was told that he came to the US around 1907 and when he was granted Citizenship, he brought Catherine and son William over from Wales and settled near East Liverpool, Ohio. I am doing this from memory as it was told to me when I was a young man. I may have the dates off by some amount but it is the best that I can do. If anyone has any additional information I would greatly appreciate it. Catherine Thompson was born in Staffordshire, England and passed away in approximately 1926 in East Liverpool, Ohio. I have very little information on my Grandmother Catherine. If others are tracing the Thompson name come across this person I would love to have the information. I believe that my Grandparents were married in Staffordshire, England but have only word of mouth confirmation on that fact.

The search continues on this branch of my family.......!

A Note from Johnathan HASSALL (johnathan.hassall@eseon.co.uk):
Our HASSALL line goes back as far as Thomas HASSALL b.1801 - That is as much as I can find at the present. Thomas (Married to Mary) and most of the sugsequent line were born/lived in Congleton, as far as I can tell and were silk piecers etc. Let me know if there is any overlap.
