Unless otherwise noted ALL information about Charles Carpenter Raison a nd his heirs comes from and is documented in a family genealogy obtained f rom Richard Raison 860 Houseman Ave. NE Grand rapids MI 49503.
Charles was first married in Canada; Two children - Leon & Delbert. He fou nd an Indian dying along the road. The Indian ask him to get him some" fi re water" And in return the Indian gave him a paper which give him intere st on money banked for the Queen.(The details are too confusing to me to t ry to put down.) He comfortably - owned a Bar (or ran one) Which was on t he border between Canada and USA. Seems he was furnishing or smuggling whi skey.( something illegal ) And when the Queens men came to check into t he matter. He told them to kiss his(so&so), And jumped over the bar and in to the USA. Not able to go back into Canada. He left his wife and 2 sons t here.(who lived well on the money bequeathed them by the Indian. (I suspe ct he was French Indian himself). He then changed his name RAISON. He marr ied Amelia- (or Aniila) (or Malinda) Who had a daughter named Anna. They h ad children of their own. After Charles died on 2/4/1905. Salinda marri ed James Van Valkenburg; Then John Buck (Twin girls- Ruamy and Ruanna.); T hen married ? Jacobus. (This information was passed on to Jacqueline Green wald Raison. from Mary Luella Plotts Raison.Shugh) I am told The origin al last name in French meant Buckwheat. Which is (Sarrasin. ) After much r esearch it appears that Anna was really the first born to Charles Rais on & Salinda Amelia Jacobus.
