Notes for Charles Carpenter Raison: Unless otherwise noted ALL information about Charles Carpenter Raison and his heirs comes from and is documented in a family genealogy obtained from Richard Raison 860 Houseman Ave. NE Grand rapids MI 49503. Charles was first married in Canada; Two children - Leon & Delbert. He found an Indian dying along the road. The Indian ask him to get him some" fire water" And in return the Indian gave him a paper which give him interest on money banked for the Queen.(The details are too confusing to me to try to put down.) He comfortably - owned a Bar (or ran one) Which was on the border between Canada and USA. Salinda married James Van Valkenburg; Then John Buck (Twin girls- Ruamy and Ruanna.); Then married ? Jacobus. (This information was passed on to Jacqueline Greenwald Raison. from Mary Luella Plotts Raison.Shugh) I am told The original last name in French meant Buckwheat. Which is (Sarrasin. ) After much research it appears that Anna was really the first born to Charles Raison & Salinda Amelia Jacobus.

He and his wife had been burning brush to clear ground for a home. They had two children, one very little. They put the little one in the shade of one of the brush piles, to take a nap. As these piles were about 10 feet high, it made for nice shade. After they had worked a few hours, they started to burn these piles, as some of them were old and dry, ready to burn. There were so many piles that they forgot by which pile they had put the baby. By the time they started looking for the baby, the fire was so hot that they could not get to the baby. That turned the mother's mind, and Charles never saw the mother again. He roamed Michigan for a long time, hoping to find her, but was unable to. As time went by, Charles met another woman, Mary Bark. She was part Indian [Pottowatomy] and English. Charles was Pennsylvania Dutch and an Adventist.
