President's Address
Happy New Year! Those of you that missed the Christmas party missed some good fun, good food and good entertainment. Thanks go to Steve and Nancy for providing the surprise slide show! I think Steve must secretly work undercover for the CIA, or maybe I am just that unobservant but I don't remember ever seeing him with a camera.
I would like to say THANK YOU to all of you that donated your time and effort to the Dog Obedience Club of Las Cruces in 2003. Without you, we would not exist. This time of year you always hear that it is better to give than to receive. Well, I can tell you that there are many members that give much more to this Club than they could ever receive in return. A simple "Thank You" seems inadequate, but it comes from the bottom of my heart.
Time for out with the old, and in with the new. I think 2004 is going to be a good year for DOCLC. We have Patricia McConnell scheduled for mid-year, which promises to be both enlightening as well as entertaining. This seminar is going to require a joint effort to pull off and prove successful (profitable). I know the potential is there given the "standing room only" crowd she drew in Novato. I hope you (yes you!) are be willing to come out of hiding and lend a hand.
We will be discussing what the future of agility is with our Club. Concerned, curious, or have an opinion? We will be glad to listen to your opinion, concern or suggestions. All that is required is that you make an appearance.
We will be starting our year with a dinner meeting on January 15th (rather than on our regular first Thursday of the month) at The New China Buffet on N. Telshor. If you would like to have dinner, please join us at 6:30 p.m. There will be a brief Board Meeting at 6:00 p.m.
There is going to be some "brain-storming" at this meeting, so please come prepared with ideas for future seminars, events, etc. Got some wild ideas? Now is the time to speak up!
On a more serious note, club member Bruce Coffey passed away on Tuesday December 16th. At this point, I know nothing more. Bruce and his Labrador Travis were frequent participants in our Beginning obedience classes. We will miss his always smiling face. Our sincere condolences go to Norma and his family.
Enough for now, I hope to see you on the 15th!
Cheryl
THE MINUTES OF THE DOG OBEDIENCE CLUB OF LAS CRUCES
There were no minutes from our December gathering as there was no regular business conducted.
In Memoriam
It is with great sadness that I report the untimely death of one of our club members, Bruce Coffey. While Bruce spent his workdays out at White Sands, most of us knew him as an eager and willing participant in our evening weeknight obedience classes. His commitment to and love for his Labrador Retriever, Travis, were unfailing, and as Cheryl said, his smiling face will be missed by all of us. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 75 Maiden Lane, Suite 603, New York, NY 10038-4810, www.liverfoundation.org, or to the Labmed Organization at www.labmed.org.
