Next Board Meeting
The next meeting of the Board of Directors of the Dog Obedience Club of Las Cruces will take place immediately prior to our January general membership meeting. We will meet on Thursday, Janary 6, 2005, at 5:30 pm at the Bountiful Bakery on East Lohman. Please let Vic know if there are any items that you would like to add to the Board meeting agenda.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Dog Obedience Club of Las Cruces will be a restaurant meeting! We will meet on Thursday, January 6, 2005, at 6:30 pm at the Bountiful Bakery on East Lohman (at the east end of the Petco/Marshall's/Ross shopping center). The restaurant serves sandwiches, salads, soups, some light dinner fare, and exotic pastries and coffees, and we will have a private meeting room. For those of you planning to skip the food, please join us at 7 pm since we need to leave the restaurant by 9 pm at the latest. Hope to see you there!
Welcome New Members!
The Club would like to welcome its two newest members, Lisa and Paul Westbrook, who were voted in at the November and December meetings, respectively. Lisa and Paul have been participating in a number of club events, including our agility classes and helping out at the Pet Expo, and they are owned by two German Shepherd Dogs (including a NEW PUPPY!) and a terrier mix. Welcome Lisa and Paul, we're glad you're here!
From the Newsletter Editor
The club calendar has been updated to include more detailed information for the 2005 year. It now contains ALL DOCLC class registration dates, all obedience and agility class dates, all DOCLC trial dates, and a handful of other local trial dates. I NEED YOUR HELP!! If you hear of any shows of any kind that would be of interest to our members, please let me know so that I can add it to the calendar. I will not be able to stay on top of all local happenings, so your participation will ensure that this calendar remains a useful tool for all. Thanks! Nancy
From the President
Happy New Year! I am looking forward to being able to serve as your president for 2005 and am always open to any comments or suggestions that anyone has. One of the areas we really want to try and work on is membership. We have a great group of people right now and we're slowly growing, but I think we have room for alot more. With all our connections in the doggie world, we should be able to get at least 4 or 5 more visitors every month to our meetings. So, I would ask that each of you try and bring along a friend or even 2 that you think might be prospective members.
On another note, obedience classes will be starting soon - anyone interested in assisting the classes please speak up at the meetings - the more help the better!
Thanks,
Vic
MINUTES OF THE DOG OBEDIENCE CLUB OF LAS CRUCES
November 4, 2004
MEMBERS PRESENT: Vice President Pam Smith, Secretary Marjorie A. Henson, Treasurer Janet Miller; OTHER MEMBERS: Lynn de Beauclair, Nancy Chanover, Julie Goodrich, Shannon Murray, Brian Owen, Steve Stochaj, Gayle Treakle, Vic Vialobollos, Lisa Westbrook, Charlene Curry; VISITORS: Judy Whitehead, Jack Curry, Janina Carlona, Paul Westbrook
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Pam Smith at 7:00.
Mail was presented. Vic Villalobos moved & Nancy Chanover seconded that the minutes be approved as presented in the newsletter. Motion passed.
The Treasurer's report was made.
OBEDIENCE TRIAL: AKC has finished with the club's paper work and sent applications for next year.
OBEDIENCE CLASSES:
The Obedience class for the the October adoptees from the shelter will have their first class at the library on November 8 at 6:30. There are 30 people who have confirmed they're coming for the class.
The regular Obedience classes are over.
The schedule for sign up for the 2005 Obedience classes will be set up when we've gotten in touch with Branigan Libraray. Charlene Curry will get in touch with them. It was suggested that we have a short evaluation in the middle of the classes by the students so can see what might be giving the smaller dogs problems (frustrating them & the owners).
AGILITY CLASSES:
The Agility classes have 2 weeks to go.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Agility Trailer: They're still working on it.
AWARD INFORMATION: The annual award information needs to be given to Pam Smith by November 15. Titles, special Titles and dates when they were received need to be given to Pam.
PET EXPO: $98 was earned at the Expo but no phone calls have been received. Charlene Curry has a list of people to call before the new classes. It was a nice day and everyone helped. It was a good location and the club had the only activity for dogs.
SEMINAR: Janet Miller is trying to find someone but is not having any luck. Let her know if anyone has any ideas. Bud Houston (Just for Fun) is one possibility.
NEW BUSINESS: A membership application was presented from Paul Westbrook.
NEXT MEETING: The next regular meeting would be December 2. Where do we want to hold it and will it be our Holiday party? The options are at St. James or at the Bountiful. Janet Miller will be in charge of games. After discussion about planning the party Lynn de Beauclair moved and Lisa Westbrook seconded that we hold the meeting at The Bountiful. Motion passed. Brian Owen moved and Steve Stochaj seconded that we order off the menu. Motion passed. A gift exchange of a wrapped dog related gift costing under $10 will be held.
OTHER BUSINESS: The meeting for new and old board members is being set up by Nancy Chanover.
Brags were made.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:59.
