Summer Class Registration Thanks

Thanks to all of you who helped out with class registration. I probably won't remember everyone, but special thanks go to Pam Smith, Julie Goodrich, Cheryl Smith, Vic Villalobos, Shannon Murray, Marjorie Henson, Lynn de Beauclair, Steve Stochaj, and Nancy Chanover. If I have inadvertently forgotten someone's name, please accept my apologies and know that the club is grateful to ALL who showed up and helped out.

President's Address

June 2004

It's almost here! If you haven't registered for the Dr. Patricia McConnell seminar, you still have time... but hurry! A standing ovation to Janet Miller for handling 99% of this seminar single handedly. Janet has spent many, many hours getting this seminar put together and I appreciate every minute of it. It is not often that you get the opportunity to see this caliber of speaker in your own area, not to mention at this price so don't miss it if you can help it.

Brian has had his first agility judging assignment, in Las Vegas no less. We look forward to hearing about it. Hopefully there were lots of double Q's!

Rather than a regular meeting in the month of July, we sometimes have a picnic or some such. If you want to do something other than the regular drudge next month, come up with an idea and bring it to the meeting on June 3rd.

Until then,

Cheryl

MINUTES OF THE DOG OBEDIENCE CLUB OF LAS CRUCES

May 6, 2004

MEMBERS PRESENT: President Cheryl Smith, Secretary Marjorie A. Henson; OTHER MEMBERS: Charlene Curry, Julie Goodrich, Kim Ramsey, Steve Stochaj, Gayle Treakle; VISITORS: Pat and Don Jonker

The meeting was called to order by President Cheryl Smith at 7:35. Julie Goodrich moved and Kim Ramsey seconded that the minutes be approved as presented in the newsletter. Motion passed.

TREASURER'S REPORT: The treasurer submitted a written report to the President who read it to the club.

TRAINING DIRECTORS:
Obedience: Registration was held May 5 with approximately 10 people per beginning class, 6 interested in intermediate and 4 or 5 puppies. An instructor for the puppy class is needed. Classes start May 24. Julie Goodrich will be teaching the Monday night class which will meet at 7:45 with Gayle Treakle teaching the Tuesday night class which will meet at 7:00. Cheryl Smith will teach the intermediate class that will meet at 7:00 on Monday. Gayle can teach puppy class if another beginning teacher can be found.
Agility: The Agility committee will be meeting next week and will set the agility-training schedule after their meeting.

SEMINAR: The goodie bags for attendees would cost too much to emboss. Suggestions of pens and paper, badges and perhaps a donation from Better Life in a plastic bag. Kim Ramsey will check with the Teacher's Center to see if they can get us a good price or a good source for the items can be found. Julie Goodrich moved and Gayle Treakle seconded that we get a $50 gift certificate from Johnny Carino's for Kat and Wade at Better Life to show our appreciation for all they do for our club. Motion passed. Volunteers are needed for Video and Book Sales. Julie Goodrich, Kim Ramsey, Pam Smith and Gayle Treakle are available to help. Did we want have a group dinner with Trisha McConnell on Friday or Saturday. Would need to reserve a room at La Posta. We need to have someone take Trisha McConnell on Sunday evening if someone from El Paso can't take her. Julie Goodrich said she would do it. Set up will be at 7:30 on Saturday.

CANINE AMBASSADOR: Jacque Armstrong made a visit on Apri1 1.

INSURANCE: Does the Insurance from Therapaws cover visits to schools etc or does our AKC insurance? This needs to be checked on.

UNFINSIHED BUSINESS: The Agility trailer has been moved to Pam Smith's house and 2 clubs have been contacted to see what they've done to set their trailers up and what they would do differently if they were starting over.

OBEDIENCE TRIAL: Marjorie A. Henson will be trial secretary. AKC hasn't approved the judges' panel. Will check with Pam Smith about judges.

CELL DOGS: Vic Villalobos is doing a cell dog program with some juveniles. There was a graduation for the dogs and the participants. Vic used our club diplomas with one going with the dog that didn't identify the juvenile who did the training and one for the juvenile. Club insurance needs to be checked on to see if he can do this as part of the club's outreach.

July meeting: Party? Fun Stuff?

Cheryl Smith will be moving to San Antonio. Need someone to do some new duties. Charlene Curry will help with the voice mail. The supplies for the Obedience boxes need to be gotten together. Kim Ramsey can help for the summer classes.

Next meeting is June 3 at St. James.

Brags were made.

The meeting was adjourned.

From Our Members

I wanted to thank the club for all the great activities they sponsered in the year I was in attendance. I really enjoyed helping out at the obedience and agility trials. Even the "poop parties" at Hermosa were fun. You're a great group of people, and the Las Cruces area is lucky to have such a wonderful "dog" resource. I wish everyone the best of luck and hope to keep in contact when we move to Portland, Oregon in July. Sincerely, Lynn de Beauclair (and Hell's Bells)
