Summer Class Registration NEXT WEEK
Registration for the summer classes will take place on Wednesday May 5 at the Branigan Library, Room B, at 6:15 pm for returning obedience (and all agility) students, and at 7:00 for new obedience students. Please plan to help out with registration if you can -- people should arrive by 6 pm to help set up the room. Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
President's Address
Spring has sprung, and things are quickly heating up with our Patricia McConnell seminar. If you haven't registered and you plan on attending, I would suggest you contact Janet Miller ASAP! The seminar is shaping up nicely and is going to be an exceptional seminar...one you'll be sorry you missed.
Change, a very versatile word. You can have change in your pocket, change your mind, seasons change, there are life changes, and so on and so on. Well...more change is abreast. I haven't really decided how I feel about these changes, but they are inevitable so I guess it doesn't matter. More on this at the meeting.
Until then,
Cheryl
MINUTES OF THE DOG OBEDIENCE CLUB OF LAS CRUCES
April 1, 2004
MEMBERS PRESENT: President Cheryl Smith, Secretary Marjorie A. Henson, Treasurer Janet Miller; OTHER MEMBERS: Nancy Chanover, Gene Forsythe, Shannon Murray, Brian Owen, Steve Stochaj, Gayle Treakle, Vic Villalobos
President Cheryl Smith called the meeting to order at 7:35.
The minutes were approved as presented in the newsletter. Mail was presented.
TREASURER'S REPORT:
TRAINING DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
Obedience Trainer's Report: Cheryl Smith reported that the obedience classes are going well. There are 22 on the call list for summer and 6 are interested in an intermediate class.
AGILTIY: The Silent Auction for equipment is at Pam Smith's house at 2:00 on April 3.
CANINE AMBASSADOR: Jacque Armstrong visited the NM School for the Visually Handicapped on February 3 and conducted an assembly for 50 students with Jacque speaking on aggression prevention & pet responsibility. An agility and obedience demonstration was also made.
OBEDIENCE TRIAL: The fees to AKC have gone up to $2.00/dog from 50 cents/dog. It was suggested that entry fees be raised. Most of the entry fees are at least $20. Nancy Chanover moved and Janet Miller seconded that our entry fees be raised to $20.
TREAT BAGS: Better Life will be providing treat bags for our classes. Cheryl thought that some recognition of this be given. Vic Villalobos moved & Nancy Chanover seconded that a certificate for a free class be given to Better Life for each time treats are donated. Motion passed.
SEMINAR: Janet Miller reported that 60 people have signed up for the seminar. The Hilton has received the list of Audio Visual equipment that Patricia McConnell will need. She will be coming in on Wednesday at 9:22 am and her flight is leaving on Monday at 8:00 am. Janet will see if she requires a rental car or someone to take her around to sight see. We will probably book her in to a motel in El Paso for Sunday evening rather than have to get her there early on Monday morning. The questionnaire will be sent for aggressive dogs. Patricia McConnell only wants 3 dogs on Saturday and 3 on Sunday. The Veterinarian Medical Center Board has approved the seminar but is giving problems with it. We don't have a refund policy for the seminar if someone finds out they can't attend after paying their fee. Janet is sending confirmation e-mails when she receives registrations for the seminar. Gene Forsythe says that typically if someone backs out of a seminar 30 days before the event, they receive a full refund & if less that 30 days they receive 75% of the fee back. Janet says since we didn't state a refund policy we should be generous. May 15 is the cut off date for the reduced rate so someone could cancel before the final week and still get their money back. Nancy Chanover moved and Vic Villalobos seconded to make the refund policy on cancellations that until June 4 a full refund will be offered but the refund policy will be available only when inquired about. Motion passed. No more dogs will be accepted for possible inclusion. Janet won't be at the May meeting. Packets: What do we want to put in them? We will need someone to sell stuff and someone to check people in on Friday. Janet will let us know when we know what we're going to put in the packets.
AGILITY TRAILER: Nothing has been done yet. It has lights, a battery and the tailgate is assisted.
Nest meeting will be May 6 at St. James.
Brags were presented.
The cell dog program has been started at the Juvenile Prison on Wednesday & Friday using shelter dogs and kids. Vic Villalobos is working with this program. The meeting was adjourned.
From Our Members
Charlene Curry submitted this because she thought it might be of interest to our members. There is a web site available that describes a suggested protocol and schedule for dog vaccinations. You can access it at http://www.doglogic.com/vaccination.htm.
