The next meeting of the Dog Obedience Club of Las Cruces will take place on Thursday, November 6, 2003, at 7:30 pm at the St. James Episcopal Church. Hope to see you there!
Club Award Information Due
The time has come for all people interested in club awards to submit their information. It needs to get to the awards chairperson, Cheryl Smith, by November 15. Please submit info on all AKC titles earned during the time frame of Nov. 1, 2002 - October 31, 2003.
Agility Trials Are This Month!
This is a reminder that the club agility trials will be held the Friday-Sunday after Thanksgiving. We need LOTS of volunteers to make this event as successful as it has been in the past. Many of the task assignments will be made at the November club meeting, so please make every effort to attend. If you cannot attend the meeting but will be able to help out, please contact Pam Smith (525-1630, pamsmith@zianet.com) and let her know.
Dues are Due!
With the adoption of the new constitution and policy and procedures document, there has been a change in the club's annual year. Dues were actually by October 1, but of course we are still accepting renewals! You can:
a) send your yearly dues to club Treasurer Pam Smith (4817 Grider, Las Cruces, NM 88005), or
b) bring them with you to the November meeting
Dues for 2004 are:
$10.00 per year for Individual Membership

Dues are ABSOLUTELY due by 12/31/03. Your membership will lapse if your dues are not paid by this date, and you will need to go through the application procedure all over again to be reinstated. Please complete this form, enclose your dues, and send to:

Don't look now, but did you realize that there is less than eight weeks until Christmas? Holy cow! When did that happen? I know at least one person that is certainly not anywhere near ready.
We do have some other tasks to complete before we get too wrapped up in our Christmas shopping. Our agility trial will take place at the High Noon Soccer Complex (behind Mayfield High School) on November 29th (Excellent only), 30th and 31st. I am again going to ask the help from our membership. Rather than assume that our Trial Secretary (Brian Owen) and Chief Ring Steward (Pam Smith) know that you are willing to volunteer, please contact one of them as soon as possible. Volunteering does not mean that you have to work all day long. Working just a single class is helpful and appreciated. No experience necessary!
Many thanks to Sharon Jolly and Melissa Thomas for getting a few of our dogs started tracking. There is always a whole new vocabulary to learn when you start a new sport and tracking is no exception. My husband describes it as being like a "Quarter-back's play book" which is not too far off! With the days getting shorter, our time with them was limited but I think we were all given an opportunity to see what tracking is all about. I would personally love to see more "V" titles on club member's dogs.
Speaking of titles, be sure to submit any AKC titles you have earned in the past year by November 15th. Remember, you must be a member in "good standing" (which means current dues have been paid) to be eligible for the awards. Also, as much as you hate to give them up, if the traveling trophies could be brought to the meeting it would be most helpful. That way we can get the name of the next recipients engraved on them in time for the Christmas party. Put your thinking caps on and consider what you would like to do for our Christmas party. We will discuss it on Thursday evening.
Until then,
Cheryl
