From Obedience Trial Secretary
I want to thank everyone who helped this week-end to make our obedience trial a success. I would like to thank our club members who were able to help and we also need to thank the non-club members like Cindy Brown and Phyllis McNall who helped steward and Erik Hoyer from Arizona who helped us set up and Karen Wood from El Paso who took the judges to the airport for us. Marjorie A. Henson

HOT DOGS!
Early in the week the weatherman fooled me into believing that we were going to have a moderate weekend with the temperatures in the mid 80's. Of course that didn't happen, so dogs roasted in the sun, as did handlers, judges and stewards at this year's obedience trial. I must say, however, that everything that was within our control went well.
I took the judges back to their rooms on Saturday afternoon and then picked them up again for dinner, so I had a few minutes to chat with them during the drive. Mid Rothrock was most complementary of the trial site, preparedness and quality of stewards. I believe Sue Cox was also pleased, she is just not as quick with the complements. I really did not receive any complaints that were about things we could control. Yes, it was hot. Yes, the hot air balloon was spooky and distracting. I wish we could control such things, but simply can't.
My sincere thanks go out to all the volunteers, both club members and non-club members alike. I especially want to thank those that didn't whine, kick and scream when asked to help with the trial. Mack Weaver and Steve Stochaj earned the gift cards on Saturday, and Julie Goodrich and Vic Villalobos were the recipients on Sunday. Congratulations to all the handlers that were successful at our trials and better luck next time to those that ran into difficulties. Just as a reminder, Sharon Jolly will join us this month to talk about tracking. She would like this to be a "hands on" session and should be lots of fun. If there is someone outside the club that you think would enjoy the topic, please invite them to join us. Please note that the location of this meeting has been changed to accommodate Sharon's presentation.Until then,
Cheryl

TAX STATUS: There is nothing new on this.
AGILITY TRIAL: It has been busy. There are 95 dogs entered with 100 runs for Friday, 183 for Saturday and 178 for Sunday. The Flash Paws people may be entering on their way to Florida. We may be getting a bunch of entries in one envelope. Perhaps we should have a discussion of worker's raffle. The board recommended that we have one with 2 of each type (gift certificate and reduced entry fee) on Friday, 3 of each on both Saturday and Sunday for a total of $200 on gift certificates and $200 in reduced fees. Vic moved and Steve seconded that we do this. The motion passed. The Mounted Patrol will try to do security.

The judges' information has been passed Charlene Curry, who won't be in town. Lynn can pick up the judges at the airport on Friday. The judges' rooms are booked and paid for at La Quinta. The judges will need to be picked up and gotten to the show site each morning. Vic will pick them up. The judges leave at 5:45 on Sunday. We should be able to get someone from El Paso to take the judges back to the airport. Lunches will be gotten from DG's deli. Brian moved and Pam seconded that the club buy lunches for the stewards/workers. The motion passed. Nancy Chanover will make coffee. More stewards are needed and forms were passed around. Equipment pick up will be at 4:00 with set-up to follow as soon as the equipment gets to the park. Vic, Steve, Marjorie and Julie will load. Someone will need to check the park Thursday night and let Vic know if the park will need mowing. Tear down will need the help of everyone who can. Judges' dinner will be at the Hacienda on September 20 at 6:00 pm. Judges Gifts: It was suggested that Gift certificates of $50 from Lands End be gotten. Norma moved & Steve seconded. The motion passed. Cheryl will get them. More trophy donations are needed. Cheryl is asking each club member at the meeting to call on other club member and ask for either a trophy donation or ask them to steward. If stewarding call Lynn and let her know who it is. Call Cheryl to let her know when the call has been made. The security will be from the Mounted Patrol. Let Vic know what time they need to be there on Saturday. Probably 3:00 pm. Cheryl has purchased 2 8-foot tables and 2 square ones.
