Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Dog Obedience Club of Las Cruces will be a restaurant meeting! We will meet on Thursday, October 7, 2004, at 6:30 pm at the Bountiful Bakery on East Lohman (at the east end of the Petco/Marshall's/Ross shopping center). The restaurant serves sandwiches, salads, soups, some light dinner fare, and exotic pastries and coffees, and we will have a private meeting room. For those of you planning to skip the food, please join us at 7 pm since we need to leave the restaurant by 9 pm at the latest. Hope to see you there!
Obedience Trial Comments
From Chief Ring Steward:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, club member or not, who stewarded at our obedience trial last weekend.
Thank you, Brian, Cheryl, Gayle, Gene, Julie, Kay, Lynn, Norma, Samette, and Steve! Without your help, the trial would not have been the success it was. (if I didn't include your name, it was an oversight, please forgive me)
Thank you, everyone!

From Trial Secretary:
To everyone who helped make our Obedience Trial a success. Thank you very much. I want to especially thank our stewards: Steve Stochaj, Julie Goodrich, Cheryl Smith, Pam Smith, Lynn de Beauclair, Kay Suri, Gene Forsythe, Norma Rust, Sammit Gilbert, Gayle Treakle. Thanks to everyone who helped set up & Vic & Steve for bringing the trailer over. I hope I didn't leave anyone out.
Marjorie A. Henson

Dues are Due
All club members must pay their annual dues before being eligible to vote in our elections at the October meeting. As a reminder, the dues are $10 for individuals and $12 for families. Please give your check to Janet Miller, the club Treasurer, or mail it to her at 48 Villa Lucia, La Luz, NM 88337.
From the President
As we approach the end of the year, there are a few things that we still need to do. First, the slate of 2005 Officers and Board will be voted on at the October meeting. To be eligible to vote, you must have paid your 2005 club dues. You may send your dues to Janet Miller now, or you may pay at the October meeting. However, if you plan on paying at the meeting, please come with dues in hand (check or cash is fine), and deliver to Janet before the meeting begins. Individual membership dues are $10.00 and a family membership is $12.00.
You might want to begin gathering together your titles and scores for the annual awards. Remember, we are looking for titles earned between November 1, 2003 and October 31, 2004 at this time.
Many, many thanks to those individuals that found time in their busy schedules to help with the obedience trial. I heard many complementary comments from judges and exhibitors. The only negative comment I heard was from exhibitors regarding the lack of awards.
Several of us are in show and/or trial mode these days, so I wish each of you the best of luck, and look forward to hearing of your accomplishments!
Until then,
Cheryl
MINUTES OF THE DOG OBEDIENCE CLUB OF LAS CRUCES
September 2, 2004
MEMBERS PRESENT: President Cheryl Smith, Treasurer Janet Miller, Secretary Marjorie A. Henson OTHERS: Nancy Chanover, Charlene Curry, Lynn de Beauclair, Gene Forsythe, Julie Goodrich, Shannon Murray, Brian Owen, Steve Stochaj, Gayle Treakle, Vic Villalobos, VISITORS: Lisa & Paul Westbrook, Kay Suri
The meeting was called to order by President Cheryl Smith. Brian Owen moved and Lynn de Beauclair seconded that the minutes be accepted as presented in the newsletter. The motion passed. There was no mail.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Taxes were paid. The Club financial year has been changed to run from January-December starting in 2005. Everyone needs to pay their dues to Janet Miller.
TRAINING DIRECTOR:
NOMINATING COMMITTEE: The nominating committee presented its slate of officers. For President Vic Villalobos, Vice President Nancy Chanover, Secretary Marjorie A. Henson, Treasurer Charlene Curry. Board Members: Gene Forsythe, Brian Owen, and Gayle Treakle. There were no nominations from the floor so the slate will stand as presented. Club members will vote at the October meeting. Dues must be paid before you can vote.
LIBRARIAN: Brian Owen stated that: Since the Club Policy and Procedures state that the Club Librarian shall be one of the "at large" board members and Charlene Curry has gone to great effort to organize and currently has the Club Library so he moved that the club record by a simple majority vote to deviate from the published Policy & Procedure and allow Charlene Curry to continue as the acting Club Librarian until such time as she wished to hand that responsibility over to an "at large" board member. Nancy Chanover seconded the motion and the motion passed.
K-9 Walk: Magic 105 is sponsoring a K-9 walk October 23 at the NMSU campus grounds to benefit Save Haven Animal Sanctuary. Does the club want to be a sponsor for this? The 3 sponsor options were looked at and explained It was stated that this isn't the best use of our advertising dollar. The value would be the sponsorship of Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary. Brian Owen says that we're already sponsoring SNAP really don't need to do this. Steve and Nancy attempted to go to one of these in the past and found many of the dogs were aggressive and didn't think we wanted the club's name associated with this possibility. Brian Owen moved and Steve Stochaj seconded that we not support this. The motion passed.
OBEDIENCE TRIAL: The motel room reservations for the judges were made and will be paid for on the 2nd. The judges will probably be renting a car. The gift certificates for the judges have been ordered in the amount of $60/judge. Porti-potties & a wash station have been ordered from Amon's. These should be delivered mid to late afternoon on Friday. Ribbons are ordered & someone will need to pick them up after 9/17. Pam will call & see if they will let the club have the ribbons & pay for them on September 20th. Set up will be Friday afternoon meet at Pam's at 4 to load (Julie, Marjorie, Steve & Vic). Anyone else who can help set up will need to come to the Mesilla Park Rec. Center at 5:00 p.m. for set-up. We'll use the new trailer for the equipment. More stewards are needed.
Judge's Dinner: Brian Owen moved to have this at Pete's Hacienda at 5:30. Directions to get there will need to be sent to the judges. Charlene will make reservations for 12.
The number of people enrolled in the Agility classes was submitted with 3 in the T7 class & 6 others interested, 12 registered in the T8 class and 3 people expressing interest in the W7 class.
A membership application was submitted for Lisa Westbrook with a check on August 18, 2004.
Other obedience trial stuff: Vic will get the meals. The judges say sandwiches of any variety will be fine. Charlene will get water, sodas & ice for Saturday & someone will get ice for Sunday. Cheryl will pick up the ribbons from Trophy Country.
The Trial Genie update has been received and will be installed later.
The October meeting will be October 7. If you want to eat come at 6:30 with the meeting starting at 7:00 so that we can be out of the restaurant by 9:00.
Brags were made.
The meeting was adjourned.
