START/FINISH POINT... West Pavilion at Tortugas "A" Mountain approximately ½ mile past the entrance to New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road, Las Cruces, New Mexico. GPS: Latitude 32° 17' 58.44" N, Longitude 106° 42' 20.99" W.

START TIME...You may start anytime from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM for the 10KM course and 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM for the 5 KM. You must finish by 4:00 PM.

All fees include IVV credit and should be received by November 4, 2009 There is no "A" award, but we do have selected "B" medals and patches.

LATE REGISTRATION...At the Start Point.

CREDIT/NON-CREDIT PARTICIPANTS... All participants must register and get a start card. The fee for IVV Credit is $3.00.  If Credit or Award isn't desired, participation is free.

PROCEDURE...At the start point, obtain your stamped start card and proceed to walk, jog or run the marked course at your own pace. Have your start card stamped or record the message at each check point. Upon completion of the course, return your start card to the finish point for IVV Credit. NOTE: All start cards remain the property of the Sun Country Striders.

"B" AWARDS...Various "B" medals and patches from previous walks are available for $5.00 each (includes free IVV credit).

REFRESHMENTS...The start point will have water and access to restrooms. One check point will have water. Participants must carry water.

TRAIL RATING... T60% of the 10 km trail (2+) is moderately difficult along rocky and sandy roads, natural trails and hilly inclines. The 5 km trail (2+) consists of rocky trails and sandy roads. None of the trails are suitable for wheelchairs and strollers would have difficulty.

PETS...Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash and under control. Water will be at the start-finish and check point.

IVV RECORD BOOKS...Event and distance books are available at the finish point for $5.00 each.

MEMBERSHIP...in the Sun Country Striders, Ltd. is open to all without restrictions as to race, color, ethnic origin, sex, religion, age, national origin or physical ability. You are invited to become a member in the Sun Country Striders. Applications are available at the finish point.

DIRECTIONS to the Start/Finish Point ... West Pavilion at Tortugas “A” Mountain approximately ½ mile past the entrance to New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road, Las Cruces, New Mexico. GPS: Latitude 32° 17' 58.44" N, Longitude 106° 42' 20.99" W.

INTERSTATE 25 South ... Take Exit 1 and turn left (east) on University Avenue. Proceed 2.2 miles (University/Dripping Springs Road).  NOTE: The New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum is a large, yellow, building-complex with tin roofing and a large, wooden, windmill on the left side of the road (1.3 miles east of the University-Telshor intersection). Continue approximately ½ mile past the Museum entrance. You will see the pavilion near the base of the mountain on the right, about 250 yards off the road, with a gravel road going up the slope to it. This is the start-finish point.

U. S. 70 West ... Enter I-25 South and proceed as noted above.

INTERSTATE 10 West/East ... Merge onto I25 North and take Exit 1. Turn right (east) on University Avenue and go 1.8 miles as noted above.
