Cisco 67x CBOS Installation

Part 1
Downloading the Cisco 67x External Modem CBOS operating system (version 2.x.x) to your hard drive:
· STEP 1 ·
Click here to download CBOS v2.4.2 for your Cisco 675.
Click here to download CBOS v2.4.2 for the Cisco 678.
*Important Note*If you are using the Cisco 678 make sure that your connection is using DMT and not CAP. If you are not sure about your connection call ZiaNet Technical Support before installing this update.
Select, SAVE FILE TO DISK, and then select OK. I suggest you save this file to your Desktop so that it's easier to find later.
Part 2
Upgrading your existing Cisco 67x External Modem operating system to version 2.4.2. consists of 2 sub-processes: Connecting to your Cisco 67x, and Download the new CBOS 2.4.2 to your Cisco 67x
Connecting to your Cisco 67x
· STEP1 ·
Connect your Cisco 67x to your PC. Ensure that the yellow Ethernet cable is connected to the Ethernet port on your PC to the "ENET" port on the back of the Cisco 67x.Connect the blue management cable to a "COM" port on your PC to the "MGMT" port on the back of the Cisco 67x.
Connect the modem power cable and ensure the green power LED is lit.
NOTE 1: Detailed cable installation instructions can be found in your Qwest DSLsm User Guide under the Manual Modem Configuration section.
NOTE 2: Identify which PC COM Port the blue management cable is installed on. You will need this information for the next step.
· STEP 2 ·
In this step, a terminal emulation connection is required to connect to the Cisco 67x. Hyper Terminal is a widely used terminal program that is included with Windows®. Detailed connection instructions can be found in your Qwest DSLsm User Guide under Manual Modem Configuration in step 2.To access Hyper Terminal, click START on your Windows® desktop and select PROGRAMS. Then, select ACCESSORIES and then, select HYPERTERMINAL. Click on the Hyper Terminal icon to launch Hyper Terminal.
Windows 2000 users select START, then select PROGRAMS, then select ACCESSORIES, then select COMMUNICATIONS, and then select HYPERTERMINAL.
NOTE for Windows® 98 users: Loading Windows® 98 does not automatically load Hyper Terminal. If you cannot find a Hyper Terminal folder, load Hyper Terminal from your Windows® 98 compact disk.
· STEP 3 ·
Enter "Cisco 67x" as a connection name and select an icon. Then, select OK.

In the CONNECT USING field, select the COM port you connected the blue cable to and noted in STEP 1. Then, select OK.

· STEP 5 ·
In the Properties window, please set the port settings as follows.
- Bit per second: 38400
- Data bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop bits: 1
- Flow control: None
Then, select OK.

· STEP 6 ·
Press Enter to initiate the session in hyper terminal. If the session does not initiate, press Enter again. A CBOS prompt will appear as follows:

· STEP 7 ·
If you set an executive password, please type it and press Enter. If you have not set an executive password, please press Enter to access the Cisco 67x and the following prompt will appear.cbos>
NOTE: The Cisco 67x is default set to have no password. Only if you previously provisioned an executive password will you need a password to enter the Cisco 67x. Qwest® and ZiaNet do recommend setting an executive password for security purposes.
· STEP 8 ·
Type "enable" at the cbos prompt. Then, press Enter.
· STEP 9 ·
At the Password prompt, press Enter. The following prompt will appear:cbos#
NOTE: You may have set a password here also. If you have instead of just pressing Enter you will want to put in the password first.
NOTE: You are now in the provisioning mode and ready to download CBOS version 2.4.2 to your Cisco 67x.
Downloading the new CBOS 2.4.2 to your Cisco 67x
WARNING!!!! It is crucial to the download process that it not be interrupted at any time. In fact, you could render your Cisco 67x useless if the download process is interrupted. ZiaNet assumes no liability if the download process is not successful.
· STEP 1 ·
At the "cbos#" prompt, type the following command:
set download code
· STEP 2 ·
As the C's are being displayed on the screen, select the following from the Hyper Terminal option bar across the top of the program:Transfer>Send File

Click the BROWSE button.

· STEP 4 ·
Highlight the c675.2.4.2.bin, for the Cisco 675 or c678dmt.full.2.4.2.bin for the Cisco 678, file you previously saved in Step 3 of the first section to the Desktop. Then, select OPEN.

· STEP 5 ·
Select Xmodem in the PROTOCOL field. Then, select SEND.

WARNING!!!! It is extremely important that the download is not interrupted while CBOS version 2.4.2 is being transferred to your Cisco 67x. If interrupted, you could render your Cisco 67x useless.
This process will take about 6 to 8 minutes. Please, do not continue until the download screen closes and you are prompted in Hyper terminal to press ENTER.
· STEP 6 ·
Exit out of HyperTerminal. Select YES, I WANT TO DISCONNECT.
Cisco Commander Software
Now that you have successfully installed the CBOS update you will need to update your Commander software. The earlier version that you installed when you first got your Cisco modem will no longer work with this new CBOS.Begin by clicking here to download the latest version of the Commander software.
Once you have the self-extracting zip file downloaded, again I suggest you save it to your Desktop so that its easier to find later, you will need to double-click it to extract the files, it's default extract location is C:\temp but you may change that to whatever you'd like. Once you have the files extracted all you will need to do is to double-click on the setup icon, follow the prompts and and take the defaults. Once the installation of the new software is complete you can delete all of the installation files.
