Workshop Instructors

Special Short Courses

These workshops have been conducted many times throughout the United States and internationally with a variety of target audiences. Each workshop includes a specially written Participant Handbook that utilizes different handout templates. The latter are models for the participants to use or modify in their own programs. Each segment of the workshop opens with activities or exercises related to the segment objectives and is followed by discussion of the activity or exercise. Depending on the background and experience of the participants, some segments begin with short interactive presentations related to the sections of the Participant Handbook with a follow-up activity or exercise. All segments are completed with a discussion of how the principles and ideas can be applied immediately in the participants' programs.

Each workshop segment is based on current research with practical and creative applications. What makes these workshops special and different?

Research. All workshop segments are based on sound theory, exceptional experience, and practical application. In many sections, a bibliography of references is provided for further reading and to document the ideas.

Real World Practical Experience. Tom Cyrs has spent more than 35 years teaching and doing what is presented in the workshops. He has taught on interactive television, with audioconferencing, and with the Internet and World Wide Web. The tools and strategies are practical and immediately applicable in your own distance learning programs.

Accelerated. If you wink or yawn during these workshops, something will be missed. You will be totally absorbed in fast-paced and enthusiastic presentations, focused and moving discussions, and creative exercises and activities.

Application. Tom Cyrs uses the strategies throughout the workshop that he teaches and recommends. You will go away with many new ideas that can by applied right away.

Fun. You will have fun and enjoy yourself learning about these new ideas for distance learning. Tom Cyrs is known for his use of storytelling, anecdotes, poems, visual analogies, and magic illusion to drive the important points home. Who said you can't have fun while you learn? Be prepared--anything can happen!

Contagious. You can't help but get excited about the possibilities of distance learning. It is happening. It is evolving at a dizzying pace. You will learn about distance learning through energetic presentations that energize you to learn more.
