Daily Kos ... what motivates this?
Okay, I haven't blogged in a while, so why this? It's just the kind of partisan ... nonsense ... that drives me nuts. I am an outspoken opponent of calling people names like "crazy" and "stupid" just because you disagree with them, but this kind of thing makes it really difficult, especially if you check the comments section.
The source of the furor is this site, where they track corporate donations to the two major parties. On one page (follow the links through "restaurants and bars" to restaurants), there is a stat that Kos sites that Hooters donations favor Republicans 97:3. He asks how that fits in with their "values" theme.
There are at least two explanations. One, it's money, and it fits in the same way that corporate donations of any type fit in with the Dems' "anti-big business theme. Idio.... okay, I promised I wouldn't.
The other explanation, as apparently none of the commenters picked up on (and this is one danger of popular blogs: nobody follows the links, they just accept the comments at face value) is that all restaurants seem to favor Repubs by 9:1 margins. You really have to wonder if he's that dense, or if he's intentionally misleading. I suspect neither.
There is this thing among hard core partisans (sheep, lemmings, or shills?) to talk past one another in this way. Find a "point" to "score". Focus in on the one tittilating piece of information in an otherwise interesting collection of data. And they wonder why voter participation is down.
