Modification of the FREQ_SYNTH_REV_0

Step 1
On the front side of the FREQ_SYNTH_REV_0 board a via (through hole) was accidentally placed on the circuit that provides power to the VCO (U3). Shown in the inset the use a sharp knife to remove any copper in the space between the power stripe and the ground plane. It will be necessary to scrape through the solder mask and to the substrate material below.

Flip the circuit board over and proceed to step two.
Step 2
The via that is causing the problem is immediately adjacent to the Pin 11 of U3 (VCO), count counter-clockwise (anti-clockwise) from the reference dot.

Use a small drill bit (I used a #55) and gently remove a small amount of material around the via (through hole). Remove only enough material to eliminate the short to the ground plane.

Step 3
Once the two modifications have been made use a DVM in the continuity or OHM position to verify that the short circuit has been removed. The easiest place to test this is between the pads of C12 or C13 on the top side of the circuit board.
