| Step 1 On the front side of the FREQ_SYNTH_REV_0 board a via (through hole) was accidentally placed on the circuit that provides power to the VCO (U3). Shown in the inset the use a sharp knife to remove any copper in the space between the power stripe and the ground plane. It will be necessary to scrape through the solder mask and to the substrate material below. Flip the circuit board over and proceed to step two. |
Step 2 The via that is causing the problem is immediately adjacent to the Pin 11 of U3 (VCO), count counter-clockwise (anti-clockwise) from the reference dot. Use a small drill bit (I used a #55) and gently remove a small amount of material around the via (through hole). Remove only enough material to eliminate the short to the ground plane. |
