The foundation kit includes 8 printed circuit boards, all passive components, all semiconductor components and hybrid modules necessary to populate the printed circuits. This set of boards and kits will provide the First Local Ocillator and Mixer, the Second Local Ocillator and Mixer, the Master Oscillator, the DDS and the DDS Squaring circuits. One syringe of solder paste is provided, enough to complete the entire kit. This kit does not include any interconnecting cables, mechanical or other hardware, but they are available, elsewhere.

This kit is different from the precious SSA_SET in three major ways: 1) the VCO and PLL functions have been combined into one board, saving four (4) RF connectors in each of the local oscillator functions, that reduces the number of RF connectors in the system by eight (8). The connections between the Master Oscillator, the DDS, and the DDS Squaring boards have been laid out so that the another four (4) RF connectors are not necessary. The redesign saves a minimun of twelve (12) RF connectors. 2) The serial version of control board is now included in this foundation kit, previously, no control function was offered. 3) The IF signal amplication and detection circuits are not included in this kit because multiple variations are being offered for these circuits, and therefore, they are offered separately.

IF_1_AMP board

The IF_1_AMP board has a signal path with one MMIC amplifier. The IF input and output are terminated in a miniature coaxial connector. Depending on component choices, this board can be made to operate over the range of <1MHz to >2000MHz. A two pin (0.1 inch spacing) connector provides the power to an onboard voltage regulator.

IF_3_AMP board

The IF_3_AMP board has a signal path with three cascaded MMIC amplifiers. The IF input and output are terminated in a miniature coaxial connector. Depending on component choices, this board can be made to operate over the range of <1MHz to >2000MHz. A two pin (0.1 inch spacing) connector provides the power to an onboard voltage regulator.

VNA_Rev_0 board

The NVA board accepts an Analog Devices AD8302 chip with two input ports which are terminated into miniature coaxial connectors. The outputs are terminated to pins of the seven pin (0.1 inch spacing) connector that provides power to an onboard voltage regulator. This board can accept RF inputs from <1MHz to >2000MHz with a range of –60 dBm to 0 dBm. Typical magnitude nonlinearity < 0.5 dB and phase measurement nonlinearity < 1 Degree.

MASTEROSC_Rev_1 board

The MSTR_OSC board has a surface mounted site which accepts crystal oscillators compatible with the CTS CB3 series. The output of the oscillator is buffered by a 74AC04 output. Three output ports are terminated into miniature coaxial connectors. A two pin (0.1 inch spacing) connector provides the power to an onboard voltage regulator. The voltage is adjustable by +/- 5% to "pull" the oscillator for maximum accuracy.

NARROW_FILTER_Rev_0 board

The NARROW FILTER board provides four HC-49/U through hole sites to install monolithic crystal filters (MFC). Impedance matching of the input and output are accomplished by surface mounted transformers. The input and output are terminated into miniature coaxial connectors. The input is grounded and has surface mount component positions to form a low pass filter. The MFC section and the output can be isolated from ground. Jumpers can be installed to ground these sections.
