Solder Paste

The solder paste is loaded into a small syringe and the needle has been cut short. The manufacture states that the paste has a working time of 8 hours. Because of the extremely small quantity of paste required for each surface mount pad, one syringe should be enough to build the entire SSA project. The syringe should be stored in a safe cool compartment of a refrigerator.

The syringe comes with a 23Ga. needle. Some users find this needle a little bit to small and requires to much pressure on the plunger of the syringe.  A larger needle, 21Ga., is now available for purchase.

A second reason for purchasing additional needle(s) is to replace the original needle should it become clogged and unusable. Simply replace it with the spare needle. This should greatly extend the probable life of your solder paste.  I recommend that you buy one of more of the extra needles and keep them handy.

The beverage warmer is used to pre-warm the whole printed circuit boards to a temperature of a about 90 deg. C This little warmer uses only 9Watt so that it is slow to warm, takes about 10 minutes, but because it is limited in power can't overheat. Used to gradually heat your PCB after the solder paste and components have been applied. The beverage warmer is useful while making manual repairs to the PCB, it adds some heat to overcome the heat spreading of the ground plane copper in RF boards.

The embossing gun is a handy tool used to provide enough hot air to reflow the solder paste. The embossing gun, when held approximately 2 inches above the board and warmed from the bottom, will reflow small boards in approximately 3 - 4 minutes.
