ABOUT FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH

We've been in the Las Cruces community for many years, having recently gone back to the name First Christian Church after using the name Mesilla Valley Christian Church for some time.

LEARNING FOR LIFE: The Christian education of adults, youth, and children is a priority at First Christian Church. Christ commissioned: Go into all the world, making disciples of all nations...teaching them to observe all I have commanded." Matthew 28: 19

WORKING FOR JUSTICE: Many of our members form a core constituent of the Las Cruces peace and justice movement, following the Disciple's tradition that promotes a global condition of peace, non-violence, and reconciliation. Following Micah 6:8 "And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with our God?" our Christian Action and Community Service Committee encourages participation in prayer vigils, marches, and campaigns that champion the right of all people to a healthful life and a safe place to sleep. We invite you to come join us. Lend your hands to help fulfill God's blessings.

SERVING THE COMMUNITY: We contribute to many local service agencies, both financially and through the work of our hands. We support Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity and other community outreach programs. Our members help staff El Caldito Soup Kitchen once a month. We support the Disciples' global ministries and institutions. Through our budget, special offerings, and gifts of our time, we respond to needs at home and around the world.

CELEBRATING DIVERSITY: We are an open and affirming community. In Christ's example, we want to offer all persons, regardless of race, creed, or sexual orientation, the opportunity to discover and develop their gifts of God's love and service. Our church family encourages diversity and freedom. We find ways to worship, work, study, and fellowship together, honoring Christ's prayer for us ..."that they may all be one" (John 17:21).
