In essentials unity; in nonessentials, liberty; in all things love. This slogan comes to life in the First Christian Church of Deming. We are a faith community with a diversity of beliefs, yet are united in the love and spirit through a common faith in Jesus the Christ, Lord and Savior of the world. We embody an awareness of Jesus Christ and persons from many different backgrounds have found acceptance here.
Our primary purpose is to provide the opportunity for people to encounter the love and call of Christ and to encourage them to commit themselves to His church. To accomplish this we offer worship, opportunity for service, learning activities, numerous ministries, and opportunities for Christian growth and fellowship. A part of our tradition involves praying and working for the unity of all Christians that we might be engaged in the task of building the Kingdom of God together.
Ours is an inclusive community of faith. "No creed but Christ." Confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and immersion are the sole declaration required for membership. Members are then expected to become life long learners of God.
Baptism by immersion is the only one practiced by this church.
Our worship is the heart of our life together as we gather, each week, around the table of our Lord, to celebrate faith and offer praise and thanksgiving to God.
The mission of the church is to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to all; to personify that Good News in Living for Jesus in all we do.
It is also our mission to confront local issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, broken homes, problems of the single parent, and other issues which affect the quality of life in our communities. Within our congregation we encourage communication and unity within the membership, and seek to deepen our faith and spirituality through sharing and scriptural knowledge.
We believe in the "priesthood of all believers" and thus lay person play a vital role in all aspects of the church. Communion or the Lord's supper is at the center of worship each Sunday and is open to all believers, as a further expression of the oneness of the Christian faith.
