Clovis Pheasant Hunt

My favorite trip of the year was the December 12th-15th pheasant hunting expedition in Clovis, New Mexico.

It was my first experience of sleeping in a motel bed. I must say it was rather comfy after a hard day's work. My buddy Rascal and I were put to the test of finding those BIG birds and what? Bring them back! I was expected to pick up that bird and just what was I supposed to do about the spurs? Being an experienced hunter of dove and quail, I was impressed with how big the birds are. Much to my relief I was to discover this was no ordinary bird, but rather, the great pheasant my master has dreamed of. Rascal jumped at every chance to retrieve one of the big birds. (Did I mention Rascal is a little Brittany). Of course being the lady that I am, I let her have the pleasure of the retrieves this year. Incidentally, we got a whiff of a few Bobwhite quail as well.

Although the first day was slow, 4 hens seen, the second and third days were much better. I finally got the hang of hunting for pheasant. It is quite a pleasant experience and I look forward to another year. The humans came home happy.  Seven pheasant, and a few bobwhite got brought back to the southern homeland.
